Project herman

Welcome to my (other) build log. This is Herman.

Herman is going to be my new Steambox/file server/ family pc. Obviously a custom loop candidate ;). I'd also like to add this is my first dabble with custom loops so prepare for noobisms. Everything to do with the watercooling is a first for me. Come on the journey with me :D.

UPDATE 2- GPU 'n' stuff

I'll also be purchasing a camera at some point as well. For now you'll have to deal with some iphone photos.

Components:
Intel Pentium G3258K (yes, its an unlocked pentium)
Asrock H97 extreme 3 (it supports overclocking so why not?)
2x 4gb Corsair Dominator blue @1600
XFX 7870- A stopgap until the next gen of gpus are out.
RM450- (I'm using an RM550 for the initial pictures) Quiet, well made and exactly what I need.
Corsair white braided cables.
120gb SSD for boot, 2tb toshiba HDD,500gb fast HDD for games.
Fractal Design Arc Mini- Quiet, well made and plenty of watercooling options. Perfect for a first timer like me

Watercooling parts (this is available as a kit)
1x Alphacool NexXxoS XP³ Light - Acetal Edition - Intel/AMD
1x Alphacool Repack - Single Laing D5 - Dual 5,25 Bay Station
1x Alphacool VPP655 - Single Edition
1x Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 Full Copper 240mm
3x Alphacool tubing AlphaTube HF 13/10 (3/8"ID) - clear
6x 13/10 (10x1,5mm) compression fitting G1/4” – matte black
2x Alphacool NB-eLoop 1200rpm)
1x Coolant Clear 1000ml
1x ATX bridging plug (24 Pin)

I'd like to say a massive thankyou to Alphacool, whose competition enabled me to do my first watercoled build :). Heres hoping I don't mess up.

Episode 1:
5 hours late. Poor show DPD, I thought I could trust you ;-;

Upload a vid in which you pronounce the name Hermann, i will wreck you if you do it wrong.
Could be a cool project, not a huge fan of blue anymore though, not that shade at least.
Sweet laptop.

I'll be watching this. I think you need more stickers :P
But how else would it be able to have nearly 50 cores

Blue is a bit dated but tbh I've seen so many damn red and black builds I thought I'd go traditional. It'll be a bit coppery as well.

My lenovo is still going strong with its core 2 duo. The lid is covered in rubber that is peeling off but hardware wise its fine, especially now its got 4gb ram.

Looks pretty rad (hehe). I'm not a huge fan (hehe) of AsRock motherboards, but I've gotta say that it looks quite cool (haha). Okay, that's enough, but keep up the good work :D

That's so cash, I'm crossing my fingers for you getting a golden Pentium since that cooling will surely handle one.

It should be good enough to OC the pentium well (not that the cooling will be an issue, honestly I've got enough cooling potential to cool a damn 9590). The reason I went Asrock is that I wanted a blue motherboard and that I've never actually had an issue with their motherboards (apart from the aesthetics but that seems to be fixed).
Lookin' good so far dude.

Thanks :)

If I get a crap one my friend said me and him could swap if its not a good chip (he's getting one for a budget build and only has a hyper 212 for cooling) so fingers crossed I can get atleast 4.5ghz from this beast :D

Thanks for the support guys! ^_^ The pentium should be arriving in a couple of weeks time. I can't wait to crank that sucker up! Pretty embarrassing it'll probably have better performance in DayZ: SA then my AMD rig.The next stage will actually be me painting and rebuilding the 7870 dependent if I can work out what is causing it to artifact. If I can't get to the bottom of that I will be planning to replace it with something like a 750ti( Probably gainward)/R765(Probably a Sapphire one). I'll hopefully get my friend's camera today and get some better photos in and some fantastic paint A++ mockups of the loop and the gpu.

I'm still not sure why exactly you're building this rig, but hey I'm not complaining. Will follow this build log too :)

And ew, laptop stickers. Nub!

Basically its a pc for my family and a storage server. I couldn't do any sort of loop with my itx rig and my ol' storage server pc/spare gaming rig has pretty much crapped itself. Not to mention its ugly as f**k and noisy.

see?

Holy Christ.. I agree! ;)

Love the Fractal. Good luck to you..:)

Thankyou! I'm even hoping to paint something although I doubt it'll look as good as yours :P

Hahaha the old Lenovo. :P

I'm following along. :)
Don't diss the tank! Its an ultrabook before ultrabooks existed. Its a typical lenovo as well. Solid, suprisingly light for a sweaty core 2 duo, well thought out (its slightly raised at the back so the exhaust is never heating the table and takes air in from well thought out breathing bits) and above all looks neutral (not so now ;) )

Sorry I'm late been a busy weekend.. It's a nice start Barnsley I can not believe how small the InWin is next to the Fractal..

Isn't it pronounced "Hur-man"? Or am I hearing things.

haha Its fine I forgive you ;)

Yeah, the fractal is practically a mid tower compared to it. I must say I'm really liking MATX and ITX form factors now though. Every space has a purpose.

MATX is by far the sweet spot though. You get the reduced size AND expansion room.

Nope. It's hard to explain how to pronounce it, but if you try to pronounce it with a jamaican accent you will get close.

In terms of tortoise name its pronounced Her-man. The extra N changes it though. I think its more like a Heir-man.
I probably got that wrong but then again I'm crap at pronunciation.
