Help With Second Build (Going AMD)

So, Im about to start building my second gaming PC and i wanted to try AMD for a this one as my last build was intel based mostly. So i wanna change my CPU / Ram / Mobo and i did have a few ideas.

CPU - AMD Pheonom II x6 1055T

Mobo - MSI 870A-G54 AMD 870

Ram - G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB DDR3

I was gonna try overlock (aint done it before) the CPU to around 3.5GHz or somthing (somthing where i dont have to mess with volts to much). I was told the Pheonom x4 955 would be better before and after clocked then the 1055T. Wanted to know what some others thought, Its mostly for gaming FPS / MMO / RPG kinda games. The games 99% of the PC gamer base play. The only things id keep (for now) from my current build is my BFG geforce GTX 260 MaxCore GPU, 700watt PSU, HDD's and case and disc drives. Only need the 3 parts listed, How do you think the PC would proform in such games as say.. FPS wise has to be Crysis, MMO wise i sadly

play World of warcraft (i know i know!

).

Also does anyone know of any other PC gamer shops in UK i can order from, i know of Scan, Ebuyer, Novatech, Aria, Overclockers.

looks like a decent upgrade spec

i would say get a noctua NH-D14 for the cpu, then your overclock will be easier and safer...otherwise, not bad at all...

Aria would be best for price, probably...but shop around for each one...

The noctua NH-D14 is massive O.O dont think it would even fit in my case xD (i dont have a midi case). But i will get a new CPU cooler, I dont want to use a stock one.

How do you think this system would run games? Will overclock the X6 to 3.5Ghz or so. Or... Maybe get the X4 955BE. What would you recommend?

it is indeed massive, yes, but it will cool exceptionally well

as for wether it will fit in your case, im unsure, ....try it and see

as for how it would run games, i recon someone else would be better to judge that (im not a gamer y'see

processor choice is entirely yours, the more your budget the better you will get, and obv the BE's will overclock easier than standard models

i do think you should stick with AMD though

Well the X6 is like... £10? more in Aria then what it was for the X4 in Novatech :/ so im guessing the X6 would be cooler to get

I will see how far i can OC the X6 and get a nice CPU cooler after iv sold my E8400 and 750i mobo ^^

aye the X6 is the better option then in that case, more cores, cant go wrong there...

but more core's means more heat, so you do need a decent cpu cooler, and i wouldnt recomend overclocking until you have one...

For some reason the X6 seem to overclock better than the X4 from the reviews I've seen. 4GHz on a AMD Phenom II x6 is quite easy, while 4GHz from a x4 requires a bit of luck from the lottery. Also what case do you have? I can't seem to find it you mentioning it's name anywhere.

Also you don't have to get the NH-D14. The D14 is in it's own league at high temperatures, but at lower temps others coolers would do the job if you can't fit a D14 in your case.

But if you want to improve your frame rate, it appears these days the GPU matters a lot more than the CPU, so don't expect massive frame rate improvements, unless your running a Intel Core 2 Duo or something.

Heya guys, Another question... I just saw the MSI 870A Fuzion board on the OC3D reiview and i did some music, And i like its cross card tech so when i upgrade to a ATI card i can use my GeForce card too!! but... what mobo is better :/

MSI 870A Fuzion

MSI 870A

Unless you want to mix and match cards like too much then go with the 870A fuzion or IMO its better u go with the 870A as ive read there r some problems with the fuzion chip (i think) someone plz confirm this.

The 870A Fuzion has the Fuzion chip onboard, which enables you to run a NVidia card and an AMD card at the same time and gain some perfomance (much like SLI and Crossfire do but with different brands). However you are extremely limited to which applications and games can make use of thise feature because you will need the driver support in order for it to work.

If you don't plan on using this feature you can pretty much go with the simple 870A, which is pretty much the same board just without the Fuzion chip onboard.
