Help with Overclocking my 2600K taken from Toms video

ok, first things first, my specs:

Thermaltake 1200W PSU
AsRock P67 Extreme 4 Gen 3 Mobo
2600K Core i7 CPU
Corsair H70 CPU watercooler
4 x 4GB Vengance RAM sticks @ 1.5v 9-9-9-24 2T 1600MHz
2 GTX 580's in SLi ( currently not overclocked )
1 TB 7200rpm
120GB Chronos SSD
60GB OCZ SSD
Bios v2.10
Windows 7 64 Bit HP

ok, first things, without Toms video AND writeup guide, I would never of even attempted this. So a big thanks to you, for putting in the time & effort for both RAM & CPU setups.

Things started to go wrong, & its mainly my fault, as I took it for granted settings would of been kept, is when I updated my Bios. No naturally, things started going wrong.

I still have issues getting into Windows as when it boots, says something about boot device & I need to reset it, then itll start as normal. But anyways, that's an entirely different issue right now, (well, it might be relevant, don't know as of yet ) & that's not what im after.

Ive setup my RAM as per toms video, it was on 1333MHz, so that got changed, to the correct 1600MHz setting, as I was noticing, after a period of time, Games or even general things on the desktop started to get a bit choppy.

That's now cleared up for the most part. :)

Now after starting from scratch, like Tom said in his videos, & going through the overclock bit by bit, starting to make some progress.

Selecting from my Bios, under load Optimized CPU setting dropdown menu, first value was 4.0GHz.

I put in the CPU core voltage 1.10v & fixed mode.

then the settings below:

I don't even know what half of them other settings are, or IF they need changing, but anyways......

F10'd, got to the Windows Orbs, & just hung.....
rebooted, back into BIOS, & upped the voltage to 1.15.
Got into Windows, great, got about 12 seconds into the test, blue screen of death popped up, creating a memory dump file ( & I got a fair few of these somewhere ), rebooted, & upped the voltage again.

Finally got a stable voltage at 4GHz of 1.270v at around 1hr 20mins or so.

Did the above steps at 4.2GHz of 1.320v of around an hour also..... ( quite a few blue screens of death later! )

now looking through my charts, that OCCT gives, my VCore doesn't seems a nice straight line, is this normal? My CPU Load-line Calibration is at level 5 ( im guessing that's Toms equivalent of Extreme? )

Also, game I played for around 5 mins seemed a little choppy again, but ever so slightly. Is choppiness related to volts at the CPU in anyway & upping it, would cure it or is there some other setting ive not done?
Ive added some screenshots for you guys to take a look at.

Im also unsure what Long duration, short Duration, Primary plane current limit, internal PLL overvoltages are, let alone what there supposed to be set at, so some help here please guys?!

IF there is anything, you see, in the above screenshots that looks wrong, needs adjusting, tell me, before I go any further.

just to add, heres some graphs......

ive streamlined the graphs a little from reading another thread on here going from level 5, to level 1, but I would of thought I would have had a better response than this, considering I uploaded some pictures as well.......

.... somewhat disappointed.

the choppiness is sorted now. Still don't know what the long durations are etc, or them Ram Settings.

currently at 1.368v @ 4.4GHz. any suggesstions on lowering the voltage further with any other settings?

122 views & not a single reply. thanks guys. been over a week too.

Got no help here in this thread, so feel free to lock it.

I think people often can't be bothered to read long posts like this.

To answer your questions though:

The variation shown in OCCT it fine. For a start, that could just be down to bugs in the OCCT read-outs anyway. Even if it's not, that's just down to vdrop from the motherboard which isn't an issue at all as long as it stays stable.

On Sandybridge (and pretty much everything since then), you don't need to worry about any of the other settings in the BIOS other than just vCore really.

Let me start by saying I know very little about overclocking.
I don't mean to sound like a smart ass here but if you don't know what the settings do , you probably shouldn't mess with them.
The long & short duration power limit should probably be set to auto.
I hope someone else can confirm that.
I'm really surprised that no one has responded with some recommendations for you.

hence mark, I haven't messed with them. which is why im asking what they are, or what they do.

& I too, am surprised on the lack of feedback. Guess people are too busy trying to get free stuff off poor Tom, than help newbs out like me ha!

Right so with the information above as a reference for anyone what is it you are after dude?

First thing Ive noticed is you "loaded optimised settings" you shouldnt have done that - do it manually like I said in the video.

ok, I shall change that, thanks.

im after some help, in what the long duration/short duration/primary plane limit etc ( no idea what these even are, which is why im asking for help in the first place ) & what they should be set at for each step, ie 4GHz, 4.2GHz/4.5GHz

secondly, additional Turbo voltage & internal PLL overvoltage, are they ok as they are, or is that something else that needs adjusting?

I really don't want to be a pain, & I wouldn't be asking if I knew, but what may be something simple to modders on here, its not for me ( unless its cars haha! )

PS: TTL, im the guy that asked for a guide on overclocking on FB couple weeks back aka Taner Harris, & I couldn't help but go through your guide & give it a go ! :)
