Help With Hooking Up Case Fans Properly

Guys,

the directions for hooking up my case fans have me a bit confused, and concerned. The directions for installing the PWM hub says to connect it's 4-pin cable to the motherboard's 4-pin "CPU_Fan" connector. But this is where I have the CPU heatsink fan plugged in to. There are other 4-pin fan locations to plug in to, just not sure which I should use.

Please see the following screen shots with directions and tell me what I should do. I don't want to fudge something up. :)

Thanks in advance!

Do you happen to have more than one CPU_fan connector on your mobo?

Yes. The screen shots show all the available fan locations.

attach it to CPU_OPT it has the same layout as CPU_FAN so it should have a true pwm signal

This is what I am trying to figure out.

I really appreciate your time guys. Just wanting to hook up to what will give me the best control (results).

Would it even be best if I just bypass the case PWM hub and connect the fans directly to the motherboard, that is if the cables will reach?

if you are using pwm fans they connect them to the chas_fan headers but if you are using 3pin fans then use the hub (it will regulate them better)

Yes, I just realized that. The 2 case fans are 3-pin fans and the cable coming from the PWM hub is 4-pin. So, I assume using the PWM hub would result in better control over the fans?

im not completely up to speed on how pwm hubs work and if hooking up a 4 pin to it makes a difference or not but it should work as a fan controller for any 3pin fan as long as they arent too different from each other.

Try running a quick test in the bios to find out if the CPU_OPT is a true 12v pwm signal.

+ Plug the hub into CPU_OPT and plug a case fan into slot 1 because that's the only one that reports speeds.

+ The case fan should have a max RPM at 12 V. I'm assuming here that your case fans are rated for 12 V.

+ In the hardware management or whatever it might be called, there should be a way to see the RPM of the fan.

+ If the RPM is close to the max rated RPM of the case fan at 12 V you should be set.
