Just finished assembling a new DFI build, checked all connections, then fired it up...

Computer turns on, power is supplied to motherboard, fans/heatsink fan turn on.. but l i'm met with is a black screen.. No error beeps..

I checked to make sure the video card is seated well.

Looking for some help here, I'm starting to think the cpu or ram might be dead alreayd.. Not even sure how that could have happened because i made sure to wear an anti static strap the entire time... Any and all help to diagnose this situation would be very appreciated

can u get into the bios? is it posting?

We had a simillar issue with llwyds, that was the clock speeds being unstable on the cheap value ram.

Is it PCE-E or AGP card?

Its a DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D with Opteron 146 and a stick of Geil Value Ram. Its not posting at all. I don't have it in the case yet. I'm getting 4 red lit leds on the mobo from debug.. if that helps

Im no expert but according to the people who are DFIs are very picky about the ram they use. It may not like the value ram. Have you got anything else you can borrow/beg/steal/buy to test with it?

Cleared CMOS. Switched slots that I had my video card in. Tried other ram stick. All 4 power connectors into the board still same problem

Well if thats what the LEDs say then its probably right. Ive not used a DFI (no-one here can afford one) so ill leave it to the experts.

ummm, i might be missing something here, but have you tried using the onboard graphics and removing everything other than 1 stick of ram, the proccesor and the hdd?

Sadly I have tried everything. Im suspecting it might be my cpu.

if it was your cpu im pretty sure it should beep, my motherboard beeped when my 3200+ fried

geil will work fine with the motherboard, its not picky with geil, but it is possible that one of the sticks are dead

Yeah I think I'm gonna have another go at pulling it all apart and see what happens. Thanks all for the help.

You can't flash what u can't get to boot mate hehe

Woops I did a DavOs and didn't read the whole thread, my bad:o :D

What you said was right though... If the bios hasn't got the microcode for the cpu it cant boot it, which means unless you get an earlier cpu, e.g. a Newcastle / Winchester, you can't put on a new bios. Although some boards (like the Abit BP6) had the option that you could hold down a key and put in a disk with the bios and loader and it would flash the rom, the DFI doesn't :\.
