I have a computer and basically the vga port on mobo has broken. Now its an old pc that my mum bought before i knew a thing about computers therefore i don't know what components are in it. I wont to identity the motherboard so i can either buy the same one or see what features it has and buy a similar one.

I don't have another computer to put this in and test etc only my laptop which i wouldn't open up anyway.

Thanks for any help :D

if your VGA port is broken, you might be able to just stick a VGA card in, a graphics card, and if the rest of the pc is fine...that will fix your problem :)

but you will need to take the side off your pc, to see if it has AGP 4x, 8x, or PCI-E, or just PCI, then buy a card acordingly :)

You can also check that by downloading a program called Systen Information for Windows or SWI which you can get here. That should tell you the specs you need for a new VGA card or mobo.

How would i install the drivers?

Thanks for the help :D

you first need to know what port it is

then buy a apropriate card

then install it when the system is turned off and unplugged

prey like hell it boots to the card rather than the onboard

then it will load default OS drivers just to get it working

then go and uninstall the default driver for video, which should be the motherboard one

then install the ones that come on the disk

or the latest off the site :)

Surely it would boot to the on board. I was thinking about a usb to vga if that possible?

If it detects a card in the AGP port, It'll boot using that :)

yep, so if there's a card, in the agp port (should it have AGP) it will boot to that first...

the only reason it boots to onboard is because its checked the agp port, realised there's nothing there, then booted to onboard..

Well i have taken it apart from a good clean now its not powering up for some reason but will leave it until the morning :D

I found out it was a ms KM266 motherbord from the markings on it . Can anyone help as to were to power/reset switch etc go as i don't have the user manual :(

Thanks people :D
