Help my AMD feels so slow

hey guys my amd is starting to do weird things i have this pc for about 5 years now and yes cpu is overclocked and it seems to crash or hang for a few seconds is it due that my cpu is slowly dieing or ? not please help me

Might be your CPU showing signs of tiredness yeah, but I would think it would hang a bit more than that to be honest.

would reinstall vista maybe youve accumulated lots of junk, tried defragmenting and removing unecessary programs?

replace it with a nice 939 dual core?

Lower the overclock/tweak a bit

If it is the CPU, either hang on till next gen is out and decide then or if quads what ur after get a q6600 SLACR

If dual is ur game, e8600 is quite a performer

of course both these require an upgrade..but lowering your oc shud help

theres a good programme you can download that may help. Its called CCleaner and it clears your registry, cookies, unused file extensions etc. You can find it on filehippo.com. That may help. I have used it for 6 months now and would recommend it to anyone. And its 100% free!

yeah thanks guys i tryed a reinstall now and it seems to be fast at windows but loading windows is just so slow it takes almost 2 mins to load windows omg i think my cpu is tired it runs nicely in games without lag and now i have this why omg tryed defrag virus scanned no luck :S ccleaner also no luck :S

General things to try at speeding up XP are:

Run Disk Cleanup

Defrag The Hard drive

Uninstall any unnecessary applications

Download a Cleaner like CCleaner (Click here) and use it to clean up the junk on the hard drive an in the registry.

Update all device drivers except the BIOS (Don't want that to go wrong out of warranty)

And just to check run an Antivirus scan.

Another great program to check for malware of any type is Malwarebytes:

And might aswell run some AntiSpyware while you're at it:
