HELP me with my A64's poor performance!

Right well my A64 is giving me worse performance than my XP3200+ was.....and that's not a good thing! :(

I know its not the GFX card as it fucking r0x! (look at those GFX scores....not bad...stock!)

BIOS Settings

Here are my BIOS details, anyone see anything glaringly obvious....cause I can't (but I'm not too sure on a few of them)

CPU Thermal Throttling: 50%

AGP Fast Write: Auto

AGP Sideband Adress: Auto

Command per clock: auto

DRAM config:

CAS=2, Trcd=2, Tras=5, Trp=2

These are all set to Auto:

Trc, Trfc, Trrd, Twr, Trwt, Tret, Trcl

As are these:

DRAM drive strength,

Max Async Latency,

Read Preamble Time,

Idle Cycle Limit,

Dynamic Counter,

R/W Queue Bypass,

Bypass Max,

32 Bit Granularity

FSB and stuff:

FSB Bus=200

AGP Bus=66

Clock spread spectrum: disabled

LDT Downstream Width=auto

LDT upstream width=Auto

LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio= x 4.0

CPU/FSB Ratio= Auto

CPU vid control: Auto

CPU vid special control =Auto

Here's CPU-Z:

Forgot to say....please!

And thanks in advance!

superpi looks about normal but that 3dmark05 cpu score is dangerously low. My 3200+ @ 2.5 ghz was 5500. Not sure what it was at stock, but wasn't as low as yours. I really can't see what's wrong, but I'd disable fast writes and make sure memory has 1T command rate.

Give me just a seond and that is what I'll do!

I'll report back after a quick round of Aquamark!

Ummmm...my PC don't like having thermal throttling set to diasabled. It wouldn't even POST after rebooting out of the BIOS....no screen at all...

Had to clear CMOS and redo my BIOS settings......

Thats gay :eh:

Lanparty eh? I'm setting mine tommorrow so I can give ye more help then...but as for that, I'm stumped. I dunno why it shouldn't like that...do you have cool'n'quiet installed/enabled?

Hrmmm, that definately shouldn't be happening.

Did you get your aperture setting fixed?

What are your idle/load temps?

I was thinkin, if his CPU is overheating it could fuck it up. When the throttling is on its scaling back all the time cos its runnin too hot...when its off it just burns out?

My aperture was fine...256mb...temps are:

38/40degC idle

49/50degC load

its cool

Jesus christ... u need that xp120 BAD! Those temps are outrageous for stock speed / stock voltage.

Yep...I told ya that a while back when I was talking about my F@H temperature running at 55degC constantly!

Now with my blowhole it runs cooler...thank fuck!

Yeah that blowhole was a much needed addition! The XP-120 will get those temps way way down!

Except hes never gonna get his XP120 cos theres bugger all stock of them in this country. Shoulda held on for an XP90C kemp...

Yes I did!!! w00t!

Ummm...so Frag....wtf can I do if thermal throttling won't let me turn it off?

Turn it down?

Goes down to 12% or something! :eh:

Trcl = 1

DRAM drive strength : 7 or 5

Max Async Latency : 8 ns

Read Preamble Time : 5 ns

Idle Cycle Limit : 256 clks

Dynamic Counter : Disabled

R/W Queue Bypass : Auto

Bypass Max : Auto

32 Bit Granularit : Disabled ( 8 ns or clks something )

Make sure cool n quiet is disabled .

BTW , Your athlon xp overclock will beat your processor at stock becoz Dual Channel > Single channel . However you should see a nice boost when you overclock. Put downstream and upstream LDT bus at their max. Manually put in the voltage and the multiplier settings. Fast writes off and sideband addressing Turned ON . As of now , at stock your cpu is the bottleneck . Either overclock it or drop your multi to 9x and then raise your fsb. Should give u a decent bump before you start overclocking your processor after you get the xp120.

Thanks for all that mate....great info...reps have been repped and I'm giving you the seal of approval: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

Done all of that, but couldn't find Trcl...although one of the progs I got tells me its at 1. So all good.

The RAM drive strength would only allow me to go to 1, 2, 3 or 4....didn't know which to choose so left it at Auto!
