I am sorry i have started so many new threads, it just i haven't bought new pc parts in 3 years. I am thinking of going with this for memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460

I am also having a hard time picking a z77 motherboard it's between the asrock extreme 4 and the asus p8z77-v-pro. I am leaning toward the asus bc i am disabled and the q connector makes it easy for me i have also never used asrock before. I'm going with a 3770k.

My questions are which board should i go with and is this setup a good step up from a core i7 920 and a asus p6x58d premium

thank you

That RAM is good, with Ivy Bridge the key metrics you are looking for are 1.5v RAM as well as the speed and timings.

Can I ask what you will use this PC for and we will be able to help you more specifically!

I think most motherboards come with a q connector nowadays. I've had one with my last 2 MSI boards (P55 and Z77).

Other boards to consider are the MSI GD45, GD65 or Mpower.
But to be honest there isn't that much difference perfomance wise between the different brands for the average user.

Things to think about are how many USB3 and SATA ports do you need for example.
Do you like a certain color scheme?
Do you need eSata or Firewire?

3770K is faster than a 920 but it's not a major step up I think.

i am able to get the asus p8z77-v pro for $110. I have seen a few sites they say to stay away from msi i was looking at the gd65 , but i think for the price the asus is a no brainer

Never had a problem with MSI but if you can get the pro that cheap just buy it, you won't regret it.
And for memory I would go for some nice blue Kingston Hyper X or Corsair Vengance cause it goes well with the board.

I'm an Asus fanboy myself but I'd have no problem using MSI boards. Anything from Gigabyte, MSI or Asus is going to be a very solid board. Where Asus leads the pack is with their superb UEFI BIOS. It really is exceptional and the best one on the market. MSI's is probably the worst. While it works fine, it's just a little convoluted and not as user friendly and stupid easy as the Asus.
