Hello,

I want to buy new graphics card and I am confused whether to buy ATI or nVidia, so please help me and answer my questions:

- Why people said the nvidia cards give more beautiful picture but it uses only DX10 while ATI uses DX11 ?

- Why people say that ATI is faster but when compared to nvidia in a benchmark they disable the nvidia PHYSX, ? if the PHYSX give more speed so nvidia should be faster ?

which model you suggest for me and which manufacture based on the following usage:

- Extreme Gamer

- 3D Max and Maya user

- budget $250 (could exceed a little)

- how much wattage I need in my psu (i7 860/4gb ram / 2 h.dd)?

Thanks for your help

In my experience there is little difference at same settings in picture quality between an ATI and an nVidia card. And if there is some, it is nowhere near enough to overrule the advantage of a faster card.

ATI cards can not natively run Physx, since nVidia owns that standard. I think i've seen some hacks around, which make it work, but the Physx effects are not that good anyway. Between two identically performing and identically priced cards, i would choose the nVidia, but it shouldn't affect your choice of brand in a major way. Besides, ATI has got the Eyefinity too, which nVidia can't match at the moment.

All in all, ATI has a huge lead at the moment, being a generation in front of nVidia. They own most of the market segments at the moment. I would think that an ATI HD 5830 would be the best card for your needs. If you want something cheaper, go 5770.

You can get an idea of the required PSU on this page:

Without doing the calculations, i'd say 5-600W to be on the safe side. And always choose a respected brand like Corsair etc. for the best reliability and efficiency

thanks alot my friend for your replay, but please share your experience why you choose nvidia ;) although ATI has DX11

I am not arguing I just need to know all people personal opinions

Dude, i just told you i would choose, ATI, not nVidia. ATI has far better performance at the moment in that price range, and that is the most important factor for me by far. In my opinion, nVidia has better utilities in the form of Physx and the option of 3d vision, but that still wouldn't be enough for me to go nVidia at the moment, even more so because of the lack of DX11.

Besides, "personal opinion" has very little to do with choosing a video card. There are pros and cons for both ATI and nVidia. You have to decide for yourself which features are most important to you, and choose accordingly. My choice would be ATI for the performance, but some might value Physx or CUDA above that. You have to decide what you value the most.

I read your post this is why I was asked why choose nvidia,

thanks alot for all replies any more opinions are welcome.

doesnt matter what one you buy tbh they are all the same, just overclock them and save your money. Just buy what ever one has the best waranty.

IMHO Asus bios on newer cards would make me choose them.

Just dont go 5830. They suck. Use loads of power and generate loads of heat while not performing amazing. My 5770 Vapor-X overclocked almost matches a stock 5830 and its much more efficient when it comes to power and heat.

killablade how many FPS for games like crysis and far cry 2 with 5770 ?

Well I use a small screen and I don't have Crysis so I wouldn't know, but reviews show that a 5770 with an overclock like mine performs pretty much the same as a 4890(but with DX11 support ofcourse)

If you have the money definitely go 5850. It will give you the biggest bang for your buck.

Thats a very open question dude and soley depends on what games are produced, and what there requirements are. Sadly we are not fortune tellers that can see into the future but the 5850 is the best option for your budget at the moment.

Got my XFX 5850 a week or so ago and very pleased with it. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4150442&cm_re=xfx_5850-_-14-150-442-_-Product)

As for FPS comparison I don't play either Crysis or Farcry 2 however Alien Vs Predator with DX11 full settings (Exept AF at 8X) at 1920x1080 gets 60+ fps and I havent even touched the overclocking side of things.

Yes fan is very loud at 70+% (In fact loud is a understatement and helecopter taking off inside your case is a better comparison) however mine barely reaches even 40% while under load.

IMO very good bang for buck.
