Help me choose a new TV

I was a gnat's pube away from buying the LG OLED it has the deepest blacks and richest colors but the burn in screen turned me away, now I don't know if their newest ones do it but I will contact my mate soon and find out for you all and let you know as soon as

OLED still seems hugely expensive atm. Might have to wait for another year or two before it reaches my price point...

I'm a bit worried now, I might get carried away in John Lewis's & end up rubbing myself up against a nice 55er & be escorted from the premises.:D

I think your right though, shopping from the armchair is wonderful, but sometimes you have to go & have a gander.

Online reviews can help a little but yeah, nothing better than being able to view it.

Didn't have much choice with our 65er because nowhere local stocked it. That's where the reviews came in super handy though :)

Ok just spoke to my mate and OLED do still suffer from burn in just not as bad as the older models he said if you use it just for watching movies they are ok but if you plan to game on it either PC or PS4 or whatever then don't use it as it will suffer from burn in, he also suggested that if you pause a movie for any length of time put the screen into standby don't leave it on hope this info helps

Wow, that looks like a lot of TV for the money.

My bro was looking for a new TV and he's just bought it. He's far less fussy than you guys but I'll let you know what I think when I see it this weekend. The deal is pretty good but don't know how long it's going to be on for!

It is what i did when i bought my last tv, i picked one from a website that was in my budget and then went to go see it in a shop that had it on the shelf, i was quite pleased with the picture quality and size of the thing so i went back home and ordered it online, free delivery, 2 year all risk warranty and 150 euro less then the one in the store, good deal.

For monitors, tv and some other items it is often just better to go out and look at it.

Its scary venturing into the real world. You have to speak & engage with people. :)

EDIT:

Just found this chart which outlines whether 4K is worth it or not...

In my case sitting in front of a 43" @ 7' away won't make any difference.

Thanks for all your help guys. I went to Richer Sounds and had a look at the TV's. In the end I decided to move the existing TV we had in the front room into the kitchen, and I bought a Samsung UE55JU6400 55" TV.

The Tizen OS is a breeze to use & iPlayer over WiFi is brilliant. Even standard def stuff looks fine from the distance we're viewing it from.

Very happy with the picture & the scary thing is that I'm used to the size already. The 32" in the kitchen now looks tiny.

I recently upgraded TV as well due to my old one packing up and I was going to post my experience with the Sony 55" KD55X8509C in here for you but I forgot.
Oh well at least you got something you're happy with!

How have you found the OS? Is it as flaky as the on-line reviews seem to suggest. That was the biggest thing that put me off the Sony. When I sit down to watch the TV, I didn't want to be trouble shooting & having to boot it every 5 minutes...

I've found the OS to be very good actually, quicker than what I was expecting.
However, I did find that if you use YouView it can slow it down considerably. We have a sky box so I haven't used it apart from by accident when switching inputs once. I can't say it's like that all the time as like I say, I don't use it. But using Netflix/AmazonVideo/YouTube all responded excellently. I primarily went with the Sony myself because the upscaling looked the best IMO.
