Alright, I have tried cores before, and I have been disapointed. Explorer is like my home but I feel I'm growing to big for my home! Linux looks like a great possibility atm. So if anyone could give any suggestions for my transfer from the Explorer core. I'm thinking about Fedora but havent had the time to try it. Thank you for all the help :D

you should research into it all, you would be setting your computer to dual boot im assuming?

red hat could be a possiblity and a few other i cant remember the names of that are very similar to explorer, but if your looking for more technical ones you could go the command line version :D

Gentoo or Debian for command line (total power user), Ubuntu (based on debian, nice distro), knoppix or RH are both good if ya don't want to venture too far from MS Windows familiarity. Do you prefer Gnome or KDE?

I'm rlly new to this stuff, I have looked on google at screen shots of Gnome and KDE and saw no real difference, I just am thinking it would be better when I get my mobo back start off with a diff core so I can get more into it. Im willing to go as far away from windows as possible Im just looking for opinions on this. I know a few commands in prompt. I feel that if Im rlly get into coding, and other things that rlly gain controll of everything[/i] I should go command line but would that be to difficult to learn? Thanks for all the imput!

anything based on Red hat is good for newbies as in ubuntu may i sugest Kanotix Avail HERE! as it is a 'live' distro <u do not need to install it 2 ur hard disk unless u like it> it is based on Debian/Knoppix and is very easy to use it arrives with a comprehensive range of software and supports a lot of hardware 'out of the box' it also allows easy installation of to the harddisk within the os :)

Jnewell_ kanotix is a really good os but it does lack some hardware support u ahev an nVidia Vid card whcich is a very good 1st step as it has good driver ssupport from nvidia also another good live cd to try out is UBUNTU which utilises the GNOME interface which is usually prefered by linux newbies http://www.ubuntulinux.org/shipit/link_view << heres a link for Ubuntu cds SHIPPED FREE to u :)

if u need ne help wit linux dont be fraid to ask /post

The last release of Fedora Core that I used was very well built. Good GUI and a good powerful console as well. I highly recommend it!

Beware it doesnt play with RAID!

Here is a good sum-up of some games performance for Linux:

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=185&num=1

Not only have these drivers advanced performance wise, but also the image quality has vastly improved along with the available features through the nvidia-settings GUI and NVIDIA installer. We can only anticipate what the future display driver releases will hold in store for Linux gamers and enthusiasts.

Looks like good news!! :)
