Help, are my sticks Duff?

Hi Guys, I'm looking for some help as I'm not sure if my new GeIL PC6400 sticks make the grade.

I have them set at stock, 800MHz, 2.1V, 4-4-4-12-4 timings.

When I stress them with Memtest(Windows), I get 1 error although Memtest86(Dos) shows no errors. I think they are right on the edge sinse they fall over with the smallest increase in freq. I'm told that there's no guarantee that they'll OC but I can't get them to do anything above 800Mhz, even though they are advertised as "hand picked to maximize OC potential". Tried 825MHz and adjusting the volts (2.3V is max for these), but no joy. Also tried slackening the timing, but Memtest86 came up with loads of errors.

Does anyone have any advice on what else to check? Big thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried loosening the timings at all?

Stick to 2.1v and try like 5-5-5-12 and see how you get on

Hi Kempez. Tried setting timing to SPD which IIRC was 5-5-5-18 but was still rubbish.

Which prog do you use to test your ram? At stock, everything seems to run OK (XP,Vista etc).

I usually use Memtest86+ for just memory

Then in windows I use Dual Prime95 for a couple of hours then Dual Super PI 32million and also play a long game of CSS

If it's stable in that then it's stable

LOL. With two kids, a long game of CSS is about 10mins. The most I'm stretching this with at the mo is Lego Star Wars 2 with my 5 year old

That said, it is good.

I've an RMA for the mem, with overclockers, but want to avoid a "NFF" charge, so will keep trying.

Forgot to mention that my MB is a P5W, so if I am struggling, might consider your Gskills Kempez.

Umm ye forgot to say their sold. 10mins of CSS is ok...but really more is better. How about just putting your player to spec on a server?
