Help a newb out with this folding thing

I've got a Celeron 300A that runs at 450Mhz at 2.0V, and a 3dfx Voodoo 3. Now obviously I can't run SMP client, on the Celeron, but if I run the standard client, will it slow down the GPU client on the Voodoo 3 too much?

I'm back for my annual one month of folding in memory of my grandfather. What better place then OC3D again this year, a newly minted top 50 team it seems. Good to see some old faces and some new.

Cheers!

Well its partially rooted in truth. I owned a 300A and a Voodoo 3 like 15 years ago! haha. Shoot I can't even find uses for most of the old parts I have taking up half my office. I recently built up and donated 5 Pentium 4 systems just to clear out some space.

So yes I'm just joking around. That Voodoo 3 is killer, it's getting 20,000PPD, smokes my GTX570! lol.(sorry to joke around, you guys are being all nice trying to help which is why I like this place, I'm not as amusing as I like to think I am)

Wow, still going strong I see Steve. Is that a GPU farm(my guess), or you got a 16+ core system these days? How's that Ford street rod of yours doing?

Currently running 6 CPU's and 12 cards.

The street rod is under going a major redo, paint, interior, and under carriage. Hope to have it complete later this summer.

Hey that's only 1 more CPU then me, but ah...9 more cards...haha. How do you keep them running in this Oregon heatwave we are having? I mean it got into the 70's this week.

I thought maybe you'd be done with the car while I was away, I personally know how slow moving the projects are but how good it feels when its done. Here's to a summer completion!

We have 2 window AC units downstairs and 2 more units upstairs.

Motor and tranny went back in yesterday....

I popped into this thread, my first after a short stint away (I'm sure the peace was enjoyed by some) to see if I could offer some help ..... It would seem not.

Intrestingly though this thread does vaguely link into my old thread about a 'retro rig' running a VooDoo 3 (which is sat feet away from me although I am unsure if I will actually claim the rig for myself - space being an issue).

So clearly no help needed here. It's nice to see someone come back to the team for a yearly burst of points.

As you were then.....

The Celeron 300A and the Voodoo 3 is actually a funny story. I work for a company Microchip which makes microcontrollers, like for dishwashers, cars, thermstats, etc. We have older technology(250nm) to make the chips since they don't need as many transistors. Ironically the same 250nm lithography in the Celeron 300A. Anyway my job is in engineering, repairing, installing, maintaining the tools that make the chips. The tools are always controlled by a computer of sorts, some HP unix, some Windows based PCs. Anyway one of the older tools dates all the way back to the early 90's, ran a 486 CPU, and in about 2005 motherboard died. The computer connects to the tool with a serial I/O board that times out if the CPU is much faster then 300Mhz(see where I'm going here? haha) So in order to repair it the same day I "sold" my old Celeron 300A, and Voodoo 3 that had just been sitting in storage for a few dollars and setup it up. I had to work on the tool about a week ago when I realized it was my annual folding time and when I was rebooting the computer I see 3dfx Voodoo 3 BIOS and chuckled a bit. I thought it would be funny to ask if I could fold on it when I announced my return, but everyone is so nice around here the joke ended up being on me!
