HDMI over cat5e or cat6

I guess its not really so much of a networking question but i thought this would be the best place to ask.

i just wanted to ask you guys which way you would go about doing this for example which cable would you use and would you go down the route of running 2 cables (16 cores) or down the single cable route (8 cores), would you use hdmi faceplates etc

well i want to split the HDMI signal from my sky+ HD box as im moving my pc to a different room which will now become my office/place to chill out (playing games and watching tv etc) and there is no tv aerial socket in that room so. The bedrooms in the house are able to get sky throw the normal tv aerial sockets as this was done before sky+ came out but the room to i want to make my office has no tv aerial or network cables so im thinking if i was going to add it to the network i may as well run an extra cable or two to use HDMI in there. im fairly lucky in the way that the room im moving my pc into is right next to my garage where all my network stuff is and also the garage pretty much backs on to the front room so the cable run should be no more than 30 to 40 meters for the hdmi.

i think thats about it for the details and any help or input would be great thanks

would it not be better to spring for an extra sky box, as splitting the signal means all outputs will show the same channel, now if that isnt gonna be a problem you could split the signal over CAT6 or an active HDMI splitter

HDMI splitter : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet®-SPLITTER-Distribution-Amplifier-Display/dp/B002EACW82/ref=pd_sim_ce_3

HDMI > CAT6 : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet®-Exten...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1364978632&sr=1-1

you will need for cat6 both pieces of hardware, as the signal needs to be split to start with, i cant fault any of the hardware as ive used them home cinema build i did for someone

if you can id stick with using HDMI only, saves alot of extra wires and stuff

well being able to watch a different channel in their from the one being watched in the front room is not something im that worried about and im also not that worried about having an ir remote extender as the front room is a few meters away if i wish to change channel.

when you used the above item before did you use stranded or solid cat 6 and also did you use shielded cables for the HDMI

you only need a shielded cable if the cable will be run outdoors at any point
i used normal stranded wire, and made them all to correct size and crimped them up

you can use CAT5e, its more then sufficient to carry 1080p, but if you ever go 4K then CAT6 will be what you want, 4K is a bit out there at the moment, but there is no doubt in my mind it'll be going mainstream in a couple of years

MrKambo ive never used Neet stuff, is it any good.

Ive extended HDMI to 80m for an install in a bar, but ive only ever used
Keene
Kramer
& Lindy stuff.

Tell a lie, I once used a Startech extender to extend VGA to about 60m over cat5e but that was a one off.

OP I would do it the sae way as MrKambo suggested.
However if it were me i'd spring for a new sky box off of ebay and just extend the coax in WF100 with a couple of F Type connectors and a splitter.

Just my 2p

its not to bad, more of a budget option, but i cant complain, the guy i done the setup for hasnt moaned about anything once, other than the Onkyo that failed but thats another story!
