HDD Warranty

I'm looking at buying a new HDD for storage now the prices are coming back down.

What I have noticed is that a lot seem to have only 1 year warranty. I'm sure they they used to be more than this. What's the reason for this?

It's to do with the flooding i think. to get production back up the quality control is a little worse than before the flooding so production could be ramped up faster.

I think the Caviar Blacks still have a 5 year warranty. I RMA'd my black quite recently, but it might be because I purchased it before the floods.

WD has several differnet models with different warranties, blacks have 5 yr, Im not too familiar with the other brands

and I was too late lol

I know the blacks still have good warranty but they are high performance drives and I need one for storage.

If they have reduced the warranty as QC is lower I expect failures rates will be increasing.

The prices have improved so hopefully we will see warranty increase again before to long.
