Having trouble with onboard audio to Tv setup.

Ok so I have a older graphics card in this system and im using a dvi to hdmi adapter to connect it to my tv, so no sound. The card has spdif on it but I chose to go with onboard motherboard sound instead.

So I have a cable, forgot the name of it running from the audio out port from my motherboard to the audio in on my tv. Now my problem is the audio and video are working on different inputs?

So for example my graphics video is running on HDMI 3 input to tv and my audio is running on HDMI 4 input to tv. So when im on hdmi 3 channel only video shows when im on hdmi 4 channel there is only sound no video?

I hope ive made it clear so when there is sound there is no video when there is video there is no sound as they are on different input channels on the tv.

When i go into controll panel sound and hardware it shows 3 different output options and ive tried them all but no luck. Also the little green bar showing sound levels is working so i know there is sound out but just on a different channel.

How do I make it work together?

I had something similar running a while ago on my tv but I remember it was straight plug and play.

Id really appreciate any help.

A lot of TVs have a DVI in with RCA jacks (audio) for PC input. If you want to use HDMI with your TV you will most likely have to use a card that supports HDMI with audio or use a converter box than can take DVI + RCA and send it to HDMI.

Like this:

Or DVI + SPDIF to HDMI:

Another option is to send the video to the TV, but the audio to an external speaker system/amplifier.

Ye i have the audio cable plugged into the green socket at the back of the motherboard for audio out and its plugged into the audio in socked on my tv, but it shows it on a seperate input, so if i want to hear audio I have to change the selected input device on tv.

The video card is a gtx 285 and it has dual dvi, and im using a dvi to hdmi adapter to plug into my tv. My tv does not have a dvi port it has 7 hdmi channels/ports and 2 vga ports. How do i make the audio sound come out of the same channel simultaniously with video.

dvi iirc does not support audio so converting it to hdmi will not add audio to it. Your in a hard spot mate as hdmi support audio there are no seperate audio connects that work on same input as hdmi. you will have to route the sound to a receiver or find a way to convert dvi to component and then add your sound to it from the rig. Or upgrade your gpu to one with hdmi
