Having real issues with windows 8

You didn't get the analogy...

What analogy?

All PC games work on all versions of Windows.

So saying "it's like saying Halo games will work on PS3" doesn't make sense.

No they wont work on PS3 because they are made to run on Xbox.

All PC games are made to run on Windows, and they will work on all versions of Windows. There are no games on PC that will not work on any version of Windows.
As long as you have a version of Windows that supports the DX version of the game, which everything past Windows XP does including Windows 8.

There are a couple of other exceptions where some games will only run on a 64bit OS like BF3 and Crysis 2 with hi res textures.

As I said before, people are just talking BS when they say things do not work on Windows 8 and they most likely haven't even used it.
Either that or there is a problem with their hardware or their drivers, settings or what ever else it may be, but it is not Windows 8.

Again still don't get it, do you know what an analogy is? lol
Let's keep the topic what it should be.

OP my advice is pick whichever you like better. W7 still gets my vote since you did say you installed everything correctly and the problem started when W8 was installed.

I had my steam installed on my data drive with Win 7 on my ssd. Added a second SSD, and put Win 8 on it for testing. I can open the data drive that I set up in Win 7, open steam, and run Bioshock Infinite just fine with Windows 8.

What drivers are you using?

whilst win8 is a bit and I mean small bit of a learning curve and getting it set up right (just like 7) it is by no means a bad os. yes there are things they could of done better and their looking at fixing those miniscule issues. I've been running win 8 for several months now and no serious issue to say its bad. I also have played BSI on it and had no issues at all.

OP you mention a bad network connection/speed. Its possible you have been getting corrupted downloads. I'd suggest a download manager to assist

I'll make sure I have all of those drivers and get back to you with the ones that i have got, so i'll stick with 8 for the moment, and see if i can get it all working as I want it to.
(Had no idea that i'd need an nvidia driver for BSI ;p)
But I have to say. I did wonder why whatever miner I was using (Ltc) windows just told me it wasn't working properly. Although now that i think about this, this might be because of my unusual Graphics Card? 7870 Tahiti ?

I didn't realise that there was another way of managing downloads other than in the Steam Downloader? But if you've got any suggestions i'll certainly look into them.

not sure there is a download assistant that will help with steam but ya can always check into it. I was referring mostly to drivers and such

I know what an analogy is dude, yours makes no sense and all your info and knowledge on Windows 8 in this thread is wrong.

Please go ahead and explain how your analogy makes sense in context of games working on different versions of Windows.

I got all the drivers you linked and i have so say Bioshock ran pretty flawlessly :) no issues at all

So thanks for all the advice guys, haven't yet tried the mining. But we'll see what happens with that when i got a sec :)

Glad we could help, have fun gaming :)

Glad to see you're sorted.

I'm with SieB on this one. I've had no issues in the time I have used it, apart from small driver issues.

Yeah well it seemed like getting that nVidia one and making sure i have the C++ etc. all seemed to do the trick

Haven't playing in a while now, changing a few things around again. ;) totally obsessed with upgrading and changing now even though i never have the money to do so :p

It's the bug dude. Once you catch it, cash is the only limitation :p

Gonna jump in on this since im (almost) happy with my Windows 8.

FIrst of all: i have only 1 Issue with my installation, which caused me to reinstall twice already.

The problem is, i cant overclock my cpu. At all.
Im on a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4 with a 2500k and the latest (UEFI) Bios.

Ive tried overclocking after Toms guide but it wouldnt boot with even the slightest change of the multiplier. It crashes constantly during bootup, throwing me a bluescreen.

Well, i rest the bios to default, but even then it just wont boot anymore same bluescreen as with overclock, repair fails -> reinstall.

Anyone got a clue about that ? :S

Sorry mate I can't help you there, i'm on the AMD side. Make sure you have all the right chipset drivers n'stuff

Sorry to be of no help ;)
