"In the wake of Google's weekend error in which it labeled the entire Web as malware, some like CMS Watch analyst Kas Thomas are asking a provocative and timely question: have we become too dependent on Google?"

Think people need to appreciate more about what the internet is all about.

If Google went bust 2morrow, although for the masses it may bring there experience to a standstill, they will eventually appreciate that there are other alternatives out there.

I've used msn search alot for the last so many years. Just has an annoying graphic front on it sometimes if u using an older pc.

The average computer user will use google for everything thinking that it's the central hub to the internet. They will type in website URLs in there and do everything via google.

Every time I see my mother opening Firefox and typing a URL into the google search I cry. No matter how many times I tell her she continues to do it. If the google firefox homepage doesn't load she thinks the Internet is down. So in essence many people would be left clueless if google was down for 72 hours :D

but for me and others there is no proper alternative yet

msn search is crap compared, rubbish results etc.

I hate that. I try to tell my Mum and Dad to use their brains as MSN or Google isn't a sign of the internet is not working.

If Google went I'd just switch to another search engine. There's many others out there waiting to get a piece of Google's market share.

My mum refuses to use nearly everything that I've installed on the computer.

So she uses IE.

If it goes slowly, it's my fault. If the internet doesn't work, it's my fault.

Unfortunately, most of the time it is my fault.

I love google. Google everythin at work and at home. Use google maps, use it to check my spelling and everything. Guess that proves I'd be a bit lost for a few days without google :)
