Hardware diagnostic software

Got a laptop here, something is up - random slowdowns and even text input lags behind typing.

Could do with some software to help pinpoint the problem, as im not sure whether its the hard drive or something to do with the graphics

Its done this on the old install and ion this fresh XP installed

Try watching temps... Could be overheating and being throttled?

what about something like memtest or HDD tune,just to see if its ither of them.

you could try 3dmark 06 aswell

Is it a Dell lappy??

You been through all the running processes?

Could be something off a driver if its from a fresh install also.

HP were awful, constantly dialling home

Openoffice and Java also do this.

Other possible solutions are in msconfig see if you have PCMServices running in startup. obv restart after unchecking to see if any better.

Hide all microsoft services and see what's there.

Normal results or the cause for this crappyness? As i guessed - they look bad to me but can you confirm this is incorrect performance

just disabled everything non microsoft starting up and also all startup entries - seems to be ok now well for the time being?

time to re-enable one by one then i suppose

i have a slight guess it may have been ati something or other

Doesn't/shouldnt exist as its not installed offf the official dell os cd. Its a generic XP install

How could i find out if its the GPU?
