Halo 5 will use a Dynamic resolution to achieve a constant 60FPS Framerate

Interesting! So the scaling is done on-system like a variable DSR while the output is always at 1080p? It will be interesting to see if it is easily noticeable.

Heyyo,

dwatterworth, if you wanna see that system in action? World of Tanks. It has been doing dynamic resolution scaling for quite a while now.

See the slider for 3D Render Resolution? ;)

There are another new feature added in the 9.0 that should increase FPS rate. It’s called Dynamic Resolution. During battle you can change the value of dynamic resolution by pressing shift + plus or minus or you can change it in the graphics settings menu lowering graphics quality will significantly increase you FPS rate.

Didn't the 360 do that already? render at x and scale...
This doesn't feel like a surprise? (especially given the hardware)

I wouldn't be surprised if multiplayer will be 900p 60fps while the campaign will be 1080p 60fps. Uncharted used a similar system

Thanks! Very cool. So now it's just automated eh? I could see that being balanced somehow with adaptive sync to be game changing! Specify a range you want to stay in; above range: GPU clocks down/gates to save power/drop temps, below range: max clock and drop resolution/lower AA/AO?
