Morning All,

After spending the last couple of days setting up my build to run the latest Os from Apple I thought it would be good to start a thread for us hackintosh user's on Oc3d.

Here we can share out experiences of installation and post installation setup and ask other users for help etc ..

The reason I need to use Os X is because I have inherited a couple of websites that need to maintained and they were put together using iWeb originally and also I am sick of reinstalling my Windows Os every other week after picking up malware from shady sites. Os X is now my main system for browsing, communication and watching movies / music.

My Windows install is now purely for gaming.


My Setup -

Z77A-GD65 Bios 10.7 (modified to support c1e on mac)
3770k
8gb Ballistix Elite 2133
Sapphire 7950 (bios modded to uefi gop)



My Install Experience -

I bought the Os from the apple app store using my friends iMac and then proceeded to create my own usb installer.

My System is 100% UEFI so I needed to create a installer that uses a efi boot loader and I chose the latest version of clover..

After Installation I needed to install 2 Kext's (with kext helper) to complete the process and be able to boot the system with all hardware fully supported. 1st kext was for the onboard sound and 2nd was a kext called fakesmc…

Also once in the Os to get it recommended to create you own dsdt.aml file with an app called dsdt editor. This is placed on the root of your install drive and tells the Os the addresses of all you built in hardware..

Bits and Bobs -
I have had to create a custom keyboard layout for my pc keyboard as apple don't use the same layouts as pc keyboards.
My Pci wifi is not compatible so I will be ordering a compatible wifi module like the TL-WDN4800 from TP-Link from amazon.
If you have a webcam it needs to support the uvs standard to be plug and play in Os X.

I dont see any reason why it shouldn't.... Sli obviously wont work but apps that use OpenCL / Cuda will see a massive boost from them 2 cards... Are they windows 8 gop compatible ? If they are not then youll have to use a legacy bootloader or flash a uefi / gop bios on them ..

Piece of piss for us geeks, and your setup looks pretty spot on for it to.

Just make sure you got a dedicated Disk for the Os....

I have my windows 8 running like this instead of using the legacy windows boot loader.

For this to work you need a Gpu capable of running on top of uefi, all gpu's that have the windows 8 logo on the box are compatible and if yours doesn't then send an email to your gpu maker asking them for one.

You need to buy a copy of OS X (latest version)
Image it onto a usb key
Install a bootloader on to the usb key
Boot from usb
Install the Os
Use bootloader on usb key to boot os
Install a bootloader on to your hard drive

And voila your done, you just need to then find drivers for your specific hardware - http://www.osx86.net

The downside is that it isnt as simple as that for everyone, all depends on your hardware.. For me it was a piece of cake.

Oh and I would advise anybody with a Amd cpu / chipset not to try..... Been there, done it and gave up ....

I sent Palit an email asking whether they have a UEFI compatible BIOS for the card, Today I got the following response from them. All isn’t lost yet. =)

Dear customer

Thank you for the mail.

Please could you follow the steps of attached TXT file to backup current graphic card BIOS and send to us.

We’ll provide UEFI BIOS for you accordingly.

So I received a response from Palit. They provided me with the UEFI supported firmware. It flashed alright. But there seems to be another thing I’m missing. Apparently I need to have Windows 8 installed on a drive formatted as GPT (instead of the default MBR). I don’t get the error message I used to get before flashing the UEFI video card firmware. Instead it goes into UEFI page every time I start the PC. I wonder if CSM disable option will fix the issue. Will give it a shot and report back with the progress.

If anyone wants the UEFI firmware, I can give it to you. Just leave a comment.

How do you have windows8 on UEFI without GPT?

The only time i advise going anywhere else is for modified Kexts (mac version of a driver) and such.

EDIT: You should also set your system profile to "Mac Pro" for maximum hardware support (the tools in the above link will set this by default).

I think I quoted you before your quote was in quotes or something as it seemed to be part of the main post.

I had osx86 on my old system in 2010 to test (I edited a few kexts for razer, amd 5770 + nvidia 8800gtx & ported some games using cider) and I haven't bothered since as I prefer linux.

That's funny, I haven't removed ANY Kexts on my machine and it's running great.

Also, I'm fairly sure that the system profile you choose has zero effect on hardware performance (within reason). If you know otherwise, please let me know.

I'm on 10.8.3
I use an IB CPU too. So you think setting it to an iMac would make it quicker because they ship with IB? I'm led to believe my system is fully functional with speedster etc working correctly.

Are you getting speedstep native or with a 3rd party kext ?

No idea. I just let Multibeast do it's thing. Pretty sure it's native though as i don't knowingly install any 3rd party Kext other than the ones in the pic above.

System specs in sig.
Virtually all of it is supported natively, just need to install modified Kexts for audio and ethernet.

Edit: I had some time to have a lil read today and I'm fairly sure that i was right regarding the SMBios.Plist. It's just cosmetic for what i can see. The PowerManagment kexts effect the way the system performs.
