GTX 780, SLI GTX 780 or SLI 680's?

I've been saving up and I'm wondering what would be the best option. In other words what do you think the best bang for your buck would be. Right now I'm already running one 680.

No particular reason for upgrading other than wanting to finally be able to run Witcher 2 with everything max at a steady frame rate :p . Plus I want to finally be able to record Witcher 2 gameplay on max without my Graphics Card stuttering like crazy.

Maybe even wait a bit and get sli GTX 780's?

I want to be fairly future proof for further insanely graphically intensive games whilst recording. I have thought a bit about this but I'd be glad to get some other opinions on the matter.

Erm, money wise.. I guess get another 680 for SLi ?

If you can handle waiting, there's certainly nothing wrong with going SLi 780's but I wouldn't get just one if that makes sense?

Worth-it for 2 not really for 1.

I see what you mean about it not being worth it to only upgrade to one 780. I could get two 780's in maybe 3 months time.

Out of curiosity how much more powerful would SLI 780's be rather than SLI 680's? From what I've seen the scaling on 780's appears to be better.

Err, it'l be better, it's just a case of, is it worth what you'll pay to get that much better to you really ?

680s in SLi will be fine for recording. There is little need for you to record anything more than 60fps. Even with fraps you don't loose many frames. If you plan to record at 30fps just don't bother with getting another graphics card.

What are your specs? If you don't have a decent processor then spend the money on upgrading that over another 'card.

Well if say 2 780's are about 50% more powerful than 2 680's it might be what I need. Anyway I'm an enthusiast nutcase, so more power is always good. If the next series of cards is coming out next year would spending money on another 680 be worth it in the long run rather than 2 780's?

Edit: Specs

Asus Z77 Motherboard
i7 3770K - OC'd to 4.1 GHz
GTX 680
500GB HDD + 2TB HDD
128GB SSD
16GB 2400MHz RAM

Merge those posts together using the edit button. Double posting is a sin on these forums :P.

Personally I'd go for another 680, what make is your current 680?

I'd lean towards 680 sli just remember though the extra heat you'll need to deal with having a 2nd card. What's your psu?

My PSU is a 80 Plus Gold rated 850W. I took a look at power draw and I'll be able to pull it off. Though if I was running a bigger Motherboard I would probably end up having to go for a 1000W. Also cooling won't be an issue, I have water cooled cpu and 6 fans.

I worked out that if I get a 680 now, that I will probably have enough money for the equivalent of Nvidia's next series of cards.

I think I'll order one later today if I get the time.

If it's an 80+ gold as he says it should be one of their premium range ones, rather than the more budget lines they do.

I took a look at ageing in time along with the power requirement of two GTX 680's on a PSU calculator, seems it will be enough for now. However if I need to upgrade to 1000W later for any reason I'll definitely do it.

I'll order the 680 and if I need another PSU I'll just get another Cooler Master.

and 850/860 w psu is more than enough for two 680's don't waste your money on a 1kw psu.

FYI: If you do get another PSU, don't bother with coolermaster, get a corsair

I was debating getting rid of my 680's and going for 2 780's but I have decided to wait as at the moment, nothing that I play is pushing my cards really.

If I want to record then I can record at 60fps quite easily without dropping the detail settings in games.

I think at the moment, unless you are going for resolutions above 1080p then sticking with a 680 and getting a 2nd one and running sli is a wise choice, rather than spending around £1000 on gpu's when you really don't need to just yet.

I am waiting for Maxwell before I think of upgrading my cards, and that is why I have bought waterblocks for them.

Thanks for chiming in. Another 680 definitely seems like the wiser choice so I've ordered one and it should be arriving on friday. I think I'll need to upgrade my cpu at the time I get the next graphics cards, so I'll probably get another mobo when the time comes so maybe in a year and a half or 2 years. Maybe by that time intel will stop using cheap thermal paste in the cpu ... maybe

I'd only really get another PSU if I upgraded my mobo, I might not even need another one then if power draw if less on some new cpu's however I don't see that happening.

Also thanks for the suggestion about Corsair PSU's, I've never really looked into them before however when I'm buying my next PSU (whenever that happens to be) I'll definitely have a look at some Corsair gear.
