GTX 560 Ti idle temps

Hello OC3D!

Few days back I changed my Antec cases top fan to a Noctua NF P-14. I decided to clean my whole pc while changing it (cleaning the dust, fans, changing cpu thermal paste. After putting it all back together, I booted my pc and noticed my ASUS GTX 560 Ti was at 40°C, while normally it's at 31°C while idling/browsing internet. It's running at 46°C at the very moment and I haven't done anything that requires much GPU usage, just some browsing. Fans are at 50%, and its running on stock clocks.

Specs just in case

i5 2500k @ 3.7ghz w/ Noctua NH-D14 (until i get my mobo back)

WD Caviar Black 1tb

ASUS GTX560 Ti

AsRock H61DE/S3

Corsair 2x2GB 1333MHz RAM

Corsair CX500

Windows 7 64 bit

Thanks in advance!

That definitely not normal, don't know what could have caused your temps to increase though. Maybe some dust got into the card while you were cleaning your rig or something, give it a clean and replace the tim if you can.

Strange, is everything else stable?

Are CPU temps normal and is everything plugged in properly, it does just sound like dust has worked it's way into the card but its worth checking everything I guess. Also did you re-paste the card? if you have make sure the heat sink is screwed on tight and that there isn't too much paste on the chip.

Cpu temps are normal. I didn't re-paste the GPU. I think i've got to open the gfx card and check it!

hey, zanc.. my asus 560 top also idle at 39-40C.

however, the ambient temp of my room sometime reach to 31-32C.

i'm not sure that we're having the same problem or not.

fyi, i use window gadget to check my 560 temp.

Well our ambient temp is 23-25 max, i use HW Monitor and Smart doctor to check the temps. But ambient temperature cant possibly explain why the change became so suddenly!

Are you sure you got rid of the dust in the GPU properly? Might be some dust blocking the exhaust vents...

Have you touched anything in the bios recently? Increasing the PCI-E bus speed could create more heat. Still, it does sound like a dust build up.

Never touched the BIOS, always ran on stock stuff. Going to open it up some day and post the results here!

changed the top fan (120 or 140mm)? OE Antec fan? top outlet is an exhaust? NF-P14 is exhausting as well?

you've got more than a dust clog somewhere in the GPU. change the fans back as they were and retest.

So I opened it up, dust nowhere to be seen. Also changed the thermal paste from the manufacturers to Noctua NT-H1. Still idling at 41 degrees

Also, im not sure if this is normal or if it has anything to do with it, the hottest part seems to be at the very rear of the card

at this part. Is that normal?

Not sure I've never touched there just after the card has been used, if ever :/ The part opposite that though is where all the power feeds in though...

Temperatures shouldn't just go up that much, if there is no dust then perhaps check Afterburner or see if you have an overclock going or something :/

I'd be angling that the new case fan is the issue. Could be, for whatever reason, the change has adjusted the pressure in the case.

Tried the fan with L.N.A., U.L.N.A, and even with fan off, and still at 41 degrees, not going lower than 40 degrees even with fans on 100%

EDIT: Im a bit desperate so im trying re-installing all the drivers

EDIT 2: Did not help, idling at 46 degrees C, again

My 560ti hawk idles at around 50 degrees (with the stock factory OC), even with the fans flat out it will still only bring it down to around 42 degrees. Ive not changed the tim but there is absolutely no dust in the card at all (used an air compressor to clean it) i have no clue why tbh

My Hawk is at 34 degrees idle, thought I was annoyed that it got up to 80 degrees when playing BF3 with fans at airplane-take-off %. That idle temp sounds really bad though.

I get about 56 degrees when rendering video with GPU rendering enabled, with fans a bit louder above silent.

I have read reports on the internet of poor thermal compound application on the Hawk though, so if you know how to fix it then that might help.

it is possible that these are your real idle temps and before you cleaned it dust was preventing some of the heat from reaching the temp probe.

i found that the asus direct CU cards send out loads of heat to the actual case and not much out of the exhaust and got rid of mine in favour of the MSI twin frozer

maybe ASUS can help ( just don't mention that it wasn't that hot before lol)

When i checked it the first time, i didn't see any dust gathered on the fans or anywhere beneath the "shield". It also idled at 31 when I installed it for the first time and it was clean as a whistle
