The GTX 1080 will reportedly launch in four variants, including a liquid cooled one clocked at an insane 2.5 GHz.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Expecting big things.

Still, wonder what the temps will be like and whether or not the watercooling will be fullcover. If its just another Asetek with a board, then I would be rather disappointed.

Hmmm now I'm thinking should I just grab an evga 980ti and step up to an FTW or classy 1080 in a couple of months rather than grabbing a founders card :/

I'm thinking if a watercooled 1080 can reach 2.5GHz, then what about the Ti version?! That's what I'm waiTing for :).

My issue is I don't have a GPU now and I was waiting on the founders edition but now I'm thinking the founders will be lacking in comparison to the non reference models but I'm also getting impatient and want to start gaming. Its probably gonna be a good 4 weeks after launch before we start seeing the higher end versions

I call fake on this one. Just my 2 cents - 2.5GHz......... -.-

Isn't it really that unbelievable, the reference card hit 2.1ghz at 67 degrees at full load bearing in mind these cards don't start throttling till they hit 90 degrees this is stated in the gtx 1080 spec.

I think 2.5 ghz might not be the peak speed under decent cooling.

Yes but that card was overclocked. An extra 400mhz on top of the already roughly 400mhz increase is quite hard to believe. It will be probably be possible, but understandable that he is in doubt. I say it will get there, but temps and voltage are going to be pretty high. Keep in mind the one they showed off was a binned overclocked chip

According to nvidia the card was just taken off a random pallet that day, how true that is I don't know.

I think 2.5ghz on a non reference card with binned chips will be easily achieved

Dunno about the voltage, however I very much doubt the temps will be high. 55 seems like a decent estimate given the performance of the one they showed off with the air.

Nothing really to indicate it was a binned chip.

We'll find out when the reviews go live.
