Let's compare the specifications of Nvidia's GTX 1080 with their existing GTX 980Ti. How much has Nvidia improved things with Pascal?

I haven't seen any information on how many DisplayPort outputs there are or if it will support 4 monitors like it's predecessors.

It's fascinating to know there are so many different ways of pushing silicon. Intel has actually decreased its frequency over the years. Not by much, but Sandy Bridge could often hit 5Ghz while Haswell topped out at 4.8Ghz for a very good chip. They've steadily kept the 3-4Ghz range. AMD's GPU's have been stuck at around 1000Mhz for some time now as well. Maxwell saw a massive boost in frequency, but Pascal is bigger still. Very impressive, and like I said, it's fascinating to wonder how many different methods to get the job done there are.

And to think it boosted up to 2100MHz at the Nvidia presentation :D

It was overclocked. That's what he said few minutes later, after he mentioned it's OC potential, I can also bet you that was probably a binned chip to show it off a little more. Still would like to see a base clock speed of 2ghz. That would be a feat

Yeah, getting past the 2GHz mark was enough to impress everybody. I wonder if getting the clock speeds that high has reduced their work per clock though.

I really look forward to seeing performance numbers.

It is impressive, but most of all the gains in performance/efficiency/clockspeed all come down to FinFET. Based off the inital look, Pascal isn't much more efficient. FinFET did most of the work due to it's vastly superior design compared to Planar, in addition that extra efficiency they gained they just put towards performance. Don't foget FinFET is much easier to overclock and runs better at high clockspeeds, so add it all up and this is the end result.

I'm not buying into the hype, especially with them in the stream talk about "billions upon billions of R&D and 1000's of enginneers".. um? That's literally the same with every new GPU or even CPU. Nothing special tbh. I'll wait for the performance numbers, FinFET should alone provide 30%, anything after that will impress me.

Now AMD need to get there marketing act on right now and prevent the hype from rolling to high, that's there best shot to keep them in business. If everybody talks about Pascal so much it's just going to hurt there sales.

1 8 pin high end graphics. im sorry but that is insane. the laptop versions of these chips will be hilarious

Indeed, FinFETs have changed everything for GPUs. Let's hope that GLOFO and Samsung's 14nm process can also deliver great performance.

AMD did say that they would have more than a 2x improvement in performance per watt this generation, which is huge considering how good the R9 Nano can be.

I think they compared the 2.5x perf/watt to the 390x? Unless I'm mistaken and it was the Nano. Pretty sure it's the 390x though, since Polaris is replacing Hawaii and below. Although feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Specs Aside! I want as soon as I have an EK water block to fit to this monster. Is the perfect ITX GPU to replace my 980 in my CaseLabs X2M build

What I think is the most astonoshing is the TDP. As I am still on a 780s then I will wait out for the 1080 ti and some water block for that monster GPU.

Looks great

But I have this nagging feeling we'll be seeing a 'Ti' version in Spring, may well wait for that.

Probably a solid bet if you can wait. We'll likely see Vega at that kind of time too so you'll be in a good position to make an educated decision.

I've got to wait that long to save up to get a a 4K screen/GPU at the same time, but even if I had the money to burn right now I'd still probably hold off as my current HD 7870/720p screen still performs adequately to enjoy my games, even if it is at a sub-par resolution.

Going to 2160p will be a jaw dropping shift and well worth the wait for me.
