[GTX 1080 FE] (620euro new) VS [2 X GTX 980ti] (620euro brand new)

I don't know where you can get two 980tis for 620 euros but that is a nobrainer unless you've got a problem with multi GPU setups.

they re used (but brand new with warranty)

the normal price used here is 340e (440e new), i get a little discount for the sli.

Youve only got to look at our reviews to see the performance. Ive tested 980 Ti SLI and its in the graphs (where the test were being run at the time)

TBH it aint all bad at the moment. As long as you don't go in expecting perfect scaling and full performance on day one you will be fine.

As someone that's had SLi since.. forever.. it sometimes feels like support is getting worse lately. If it were my money I'd say get the single card for future expandability and compatibility. I'm getting sick of the lack of proper SLi support despite it being promised, very few deliver on it. And then you're stuck using a single, lesser card or getting WORSE performance than a single card in the worst cases.

I was happily dismissive of SLi issues up until maybe 2 years ago, but it's been getting exponentially worse, I believe simply because the single SKU's can handle stuff now, so there's no real gain for anyone to optimise for dual GPU setups. nVidia gets people on their latest stock, and driver releases become less complex.

It makes me sad to say it, but I think I'd recommend a single card on this one. :(

no, man it s not this way at all.

what you see in a benchmark isn t at all what you got.

gaming experience is another thing.

for example driver support is important, there are many games with high fps unplayable with sli.

direct experience is what i m looking for and what the forum is made to share

i understand your point man!

I am giving you the direct experience. Multi GPU setups just take a bit more time. If you are happy with not having a perfect experience at day one, then you will be fine.

OFC the 1080 is going to be much better in terms of day 1 gameplay, future upgrade paths, power usage, usability etc etc.

Pure performance though 2 980ti's are the way to go.

Check sig.

The division promised proper SLi support, and still doesn't work.
Most of the main Ubisoft main engines don't support SLi rendering, full stop.
And then there's those titles that kinda work, but have flickering stuff (world of warships being a great example) when asked. they don't officially support it.
Then there's the microstuttering.. you can't get that from a simple look at FPS testing and benchmarks. It's something you can only really experience by looking at a game that you're playing. It's extremely annoying.

Ark is exactly the same, forced SLI gives fantastic frames but damn the flickering is mental :(, on the other hand having 2 cards means while one is slowly degrading you have a spare... still we want "Proper" SLI support. Come on Devs get your act together.

Unfortunately we want a lot of things, whether they care or not is another thing :D

You got a few billion or so to throw around Wraith? Start a new company for the people

Would with whoever does that the best of luck.

In my opinion, SLI is not necessary unless you're at really high resolutions like 4K or 7680x1440p. Obviously, if you have always insisted on hitting 100+ FPS with settings cranked at the highest they'll go then you should go with 980ti SLI or 1080 SLI. A single GTX 1080 is all you need for QHD, though. Buying two 980ti's is going to better value and give better performance for 3440x1440p and above, but whether that extra performance is worth the hassle is entirely up to you. You'll likely hit issues with SLI, CPU bottlenecks, hotter temperatures, louder fan speeds, larger electricity bills, etc. I personally suggest a 1080 over 980ti SLI.
