GT 200 not really new tech?

I do feel enthusiasts have cottened onto their game tho, increasingly so. There`s more of a willingness to skip `generations`. U bought a 8800GTX, there`s not really been a tremendous need for an upgrade since 06/07. U bought a 8800GT, u may feel the same - u certainly won`t sell ur grandma for a 9800GTX, or even feel the need to. Will the 9900GTX(G2x0) change ur mind ? There`s maybe not the urgency.

If ur buying for a new build with no existing kit, then u should consider them imo.

I can't wait for my new build i'm going from a P4 Northwood to Core 2 Quad... :eyes:... haha... I've put it off for so long now i had to set a date. Depending on any price drops i might even hit dual 9800 GTX's with EVGA and do the 90 day step up, hopefully by November the prices would be a little more reasonable for the GTX280.

If i wasn't replacing such old tech (6+ Years) I'd probably be skipping a couple of generations of GPU's tbh. The premium versus performance gains are so poor, you'd have to be filthy rich to justify it!

Imho all current enthusiasts want out of a GPU is to play Crysis on a 24" panel with AA at a fluid speed.. i'm getting the impression from all the press so far even GTX280 SLI wouldn't suffice!?!

rofl. But thats just me. If the Cry engine in Crysis wasnt so horrible it wouldnt need such a big GPU to pull off all the eye candy.

By the way... Step-Up is truly pointless in this country. I looked into it about 4 weeks ago and it just made no sense... If you were stepping up to a 9800GTX from anything else, the price they have it listed at is something like £350 when you can buy one for £180 elsewhere....

Yep indeed it does.. I was thinking of buying the GTX and then stepping up when the GT200s were released. I figured I had better look into it before hand though just to be sure... Turned out to suck donkey balls.

Better off fleebaying your current card and buying new from a shop.

Except Fleabay has all them stupid charges. I found i could sell one of my 7950GTs last year for 300 bucks. Turns out after charges id only get like 200 or less. If somebody is gonna pay 300 for my card i should get all 300 that i dont deserve for it

Well I've just gained the need for a new beefier card from my GT as my 24" will turn up tomorrow. I was about 2 mins from buying a 9800GTX but didn't in the end... Figured I'd just wait for this month.

The transition of 8800GT to what a 9900GTX (GT280 - whatever) is presuming to be, seems a fair upgrade.

8800GTX to 9800GTX possibly is too.. possibly.

Looking back at the massive pricing of the original 8800GTX/Ultras, suddenly doesn`t seem that expensive when we look at how long they`ve remained up-there-with-the-big-boys. Be close to 2/3 years u could have bought one and not ~really~ had scope to complain about performance.

24" widescreen monitors are the place to be. I`m looking at a 22" in comparison to my 20" and it`s shocking - even tho I still think my 20" looks great.

Seems as tho maybe esthetics/quality are taking over from mere `performance`. I don`t think that`s wholey a bad thing.

8GTX to 9GTX is only just possibly a worthy upgrade. Only if you could sell your 8GTX for about the same price you can get hold of the 9GTX.

GT up to the new one like ya say should be a fair upgrade.

The 24" I went for isn't anything special in looks, just nice slip boarders and a decent panel. I don't expect the plastic used to be of very high quality, but once it's on my desk, it shant be moving so that isn't an issue. As long as the picture quality is there I'm happy. Plus even the cheapest 24" is gonna be of better quality that my dodgy Neovo 19" 4:5

The ones that have bought the 8800gts/ultra have made a future proof investment back then. These two cards are still top of what you can have. We will see what comes with this new chip. Maybe a new 8800gtx or ultra, that will ace in games for the next 3 years. :wiggle:
