GT 200 not really new tech?

All I can say is that I hope not. G80 has been around for two years, in several variants and sizes, I think it is time we move on to something more modern.

Yeh tbh... as logn as it ups the performance bar I cant see anything wrong with it... will get a little hot though :|

If that is true, we can only hope that they push the memory interface to 512bit and push the memory size to 1gb, so that we can enjoy playing the newest games at highest settings. Maybe ati pushes them, with their upcoming release, to the limit and they haven't got enough time for a new architecture, if they want to compete now. So they just upgrade their existing one. We will see when the new gpu’s come out.

G80 still rapes..

True. But, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be getting new tech. IMO, no matter how good tech is, two years on, we should be seeing something new.

But its the money, to develope a whole new architechture would cost millions and if the old one is still top dog why bother with a new one?

Because you dont wanna

your customers off thats why. People like me turn to ATI when i cant buy anything new that isnt rehashed.

But the nvidia cards are faster so they see no need, it makes buisness sense to re-use old architecture if it still kicks ass.

Correct.

Plus, the educated market is a small percentage of the whole market.. they won't stop selling.

I understand this fully and this was my defense against the 9800GTX before on this very forum. The thing is, now im looking to do a full overhaul on my system and i dont want rehashed tech in my machine cause i know sure as

as soon as i purchase a 9800GTX or Geforce 280 they will come out with their "real" card in like november like the 8800GT monster. Pardon my stern views on this but i dont want to waste my money like any other enthusiast out there wouldnt. I guess the smart thing to do is blow 120 bucks on a 9600GSO and soft mod it then see how the G280 fairs and what it really is gonna be. Then

the 9600 to a friend when i purchase my new card.

Edit, why is t-oss censored?

You will probably end up waiting all your life to upgrade, there is always something else around the corner. ;)

Personally i think it's 50/50, nVidia have improved what they believe they have needed to beat the comp' with spending as little as possible on R&D... it's just sensible business, save a few tricks for when it's really needed, their architecture albeit old is still good.

Everyone slates nVidia for bringing out poorly progressed gear but tbh i think the blame lays in the ATI camp, nVidia are doing exactly what every other company would do with the lack of competition... milk the hell out of their current products!!!

So many people believe these companies owe us so much.. bleh.. they only owe their shareholders and their shareholders only care for profits!!!

All i hope is that both ATI and nVidia's next gen perform very very well i don't care for how they've done it, a bit of balance might benefit all of us quicker!

Come 1st of August this gpu war is gonna decide which platform i build around, can't wait for the benchies :yumyum:

Without us they have no money, without money they have no shareholders. We are the key to a succesful business, so you best keep us happy :)

Yeah you would have thought so wouldn't you... however as someone else mentioned before, us enthusiasts that are that bit more savvy than the average punter are the minority of their sales, to them we are but a small niche market that they satisfy by leaving a bit of 'Headroom' in all their products...

The truth of the matter is they don't need to keep us happy, they just need to make sure they have the fastest gear, even if it's not by a huge margin!

If they were in for keeping us happy they'd have damn near perfect drivers pre-release of hardware, and fast fixes there after!!!

...or i'm just the world's biggest cynic.. haha

.. just crank out a card that`s 5%+ better than the last ? Don`t worry about tech.

Seems to be the trend.

I do feel enthusiasts have cottened onto their game tho, increasingly so. There`s more of a willingness to skip `generations`. U bought a 8800GTX, there`s not really been a tremendous need for an upgrade since 06/07. U bought a 8800GT, u may feel the same - u certainly won`t sell ur grandma for a 9800GTX, or even feel the need to. Will the 9900GTX(G2x0) change ur mind ? There`s maybe not the urgency.

If ur buying for a new build with no existing kit, then u should consider them imo.

Well I've just gained the need for a new beefier card from my GT as my 24" will turn up tomorrow. I was about 2 mins from buying a 9800GTX but didn't in the end... Figured I'd just wait for this month.
