Graphics card upgrade

Looking to upgrade my graphics to from a 560ti to a 670 the only thing I am worried about is if my q6600 quad core CPU clocked at 2.5 will hold back the 670 playing games such as skyrim, metro, arkham city ECT

Ideally I would want to wait until the next generation of intel processor come out and then upgrade CPU and motherboard

Thing is youre in the right place to get the most out of that Q6600.

Just get some decent cooling and Im sure we can try and remember how 775 CPU's work :p

*400+ FSB Q6600 flash backs*

Darn it a tad to late, i was about to say , start overclocking great change TO

On the bright side, even if it does bottleneck a little bit, you'll have the card you want for when you upgrade the CPU and mobo. :) One less part to have to worry about later mate ;)

What motherboard are you using with your Q6600?

Do you have a decent aftermarket cooler?

I have one these Q6600 too but I currently have a bfg nvidia nforce 680i sli motherboard and it BAD at overclocking with all the fsb holes these have. I was only able to overclock mine to 2.7 Ghz, anything over that and it blues screens galore and reboots, no matter how I try to overclock it further.

With a decent motherboard & cooler you can get an overclock up at 3.6 Ghz, silicon lottery dependent. They were and are great overclockers the Q6600 chips.

P45 motherboards were great overclockers for these and I like you am trying to decided if I should wait for haswell, go ivy bridge, or get a decent overclocking motherboard / graphics card and such now.

Potentiall good boards to look for can be

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR, Gigabyte EP45-UD3p
Biostar i45 TPower
Asus P5Q Deluxe , Asus P5Q Pro & such

There's others and the guys on here will be able to suggest other good ones if you wanted to go that route.

I've been working my pc for years now and upgrading parts here and there, but after like 6 years it seems time to stop flogging a old, but great horse, to death.

Hope this helps.
