GPU Underclocking Itself

I've got a gaming laptop with nVidia 230m graphics. For gaming I overclock the GPU from 500mhz on core and 790 on memory to 700mhz on core and 948mhz on the memory., which gives me a 30% boost in frames. I can run F@H, Furmark perfectly without a hitch, but the annoying thing is when I play games, after around ten minutes the GPU automatically drops itself to 400MHz on the core and 700MHz on the memory which leads to roughly 60% decrease in frame rates. At first I thought it was an unstable overclock, so I tried gaming at the stock speeds and it still does the same thing, but it takes longer for it to switch to the underclocked mode. So is there anyway for me to stop this because when it's underclocked it makes the majority of games unplayable.

Maybe it's getting too hot and then underclocks itself to drop the temps?

I suggest running any temperature monitoring software to see if that's the case.

I doubt it's temps because it does it even when it's at a meer 50*C, considering it hits 80*C while F@H and doesn't underclock I doubt it's a temp issue..

It idles at 60*C GPU also goes into 2D mode, which is even slower than the underclocked mode. Overclocked and gaming it goes to 70*C after a while it underclocks to a speed below factory settings and makes games unplayable. While running Furmark or F@H it goes up to 75*C and will never underclock itself.
