GPU Temp

I've recently bought my first ever Geforce card, only ever used ATI.The card is a Peakhardware geforce 7600gt 256mb 128bit DDR3 PCI-E.After 3 days of system crashes and shut downs i found the problem. The fan was default set to 31% and after 5 minutes of call of duty 4 the temperatures were: GPU 97 degrees C

and GPU Diode 117 degrees C,hence the overheating.Using Rivatuner i've now set the fan to 65% and now my temps are, using PC Wizard 2008:

Idle GPU 53 degree C

GPU Diode 60 degrees C

After 30 minutes of totally beasting COD4 (single player) in a warm room

GPU 69 degrees C

GPU Diode 74 degrees C

My question is are these temperatures ok,normal or too high.Im really paranoid about GPU temps as my last card was a Radeon 9800pro,the fan died i carried on using it and it went bang costing me a new board, chip and graphics card.Any views would be appreciated.BTW my PSU is 550watts 12volts=38A and the Geforce has not been overclocked, its running:Core bus 560mhz Memory bus 650mhz(factory shipping default)

My GT used to get to 94'C before I added a new cooler. Since changing your fan speeds the new temps look more acceptable though you might want to change the cooler - thats down to personal choice I guess.

:)

my 76gt on my old board idles at 42 loads at 60,so in my book there does seem to be something wrong.tbh i have never heard of your manufacturer-mine is an evga, although i dont think that makes much difference, best thing i could suggest is keep an eye on your temps with rivatuner and see how it goes

I was just looking at coolers but to be honest i havent got a clue what im looking for although Coolermaster seem to be popular

Got it sorted.E-mailed Peak hardware and got e-mail back saying that the card is from a batch of faulty memory bus's on the 7600gts that were meant for destruction but an error led them to be distributed.Ive got to send the 7600GT back and as they no longer make or stock the 7600 they are shipping me out a brand new card of greater spec and value. Hope its the 8800gt

Damn, if they were meant for destruction, why didn't they just let you keep it and send you a new one. You could've sent it to me instead, and I could add it to my fiery project (clocking an old AMD AthlonXP and removing the heatsink so it will catch fire). :D

Got to be honest,Peakhardware have been brilliant got to give them 10/10 for customer service, pity virgin media wernt the same, anyway i just looked in their 2008 brochure and they dont even display the 7600gt as a model they produce any more, the next card with DDR3 is the 256mb geforce 8600GT and i was wondering would that be a better replacement than another 7600GT as i've often heard it said that geforce numbers dont always mean higher is better.

thanks for the feedback guys its appreciated

Well say, 1 week for your card to reach them, 2 weeks sorting out a new one, another week sending it back.. Tbh it could be in customs. Email them asking them where the card is.

e-mailed them last tuesday and got reply saying it was currently being repaired which isnt true because the card should have been destroyed which is why they were sending out a replacement,so not counting sundays thats been 8 days now and my on board graphics chip is directX 7 and is really doing me head in cus its rubbish.

Finally just got my replacement card back and it looks good. The card is an EVGA Geforce 7600GT-A2 256MB DDR3 PCI-E and looks very nice, also the fan is twice the size of my origional card and totally silent. So all in all im a happy bunny. Thanks to everyone for the feedback and you all be lucky

P.S they sent me a free Peakhardware pen too :)

just as a foot note i've just ran COD4 for 30 minutes and my temps are

GPU TEMPERATURE 49 DEGREES

GPU DIODE 56.6 DEGREES
