GPU Overclocking advice

I recently got an nice new PC the other day , pre overclocked and I'm very happy with it. However I had a few questions to help me understand the over clocking that has been done. I'm sure I'll need to provide more info or maybe you guys will be able to answer my questions easily.

The CPU over clock seems fine, its the graphic card over clocking that seems strange. The core has been upped to +150 MHz but the memory has only been over clocked by +30 mhz
The MSI afterburner software has been used. In many reviews of the card the reviewers have done a memory over clock between 200 and 400mhz. 30mhz seems tame. I may add that I'm a little confused at the default clock showing as 980, I thought it should be 1020.

Anyway my two questions are as follows, based on my stats below.

1) During the over clocking process what reasons would there be to have such a small memory over clock.

2) Overall what do you guys think of the GPU over clock?

Specs

Cpu : i7 4770k OC @ 4.5Ghz
Ram :16Gb (2x8Gb 2133Mhz)
Mobo: Asus Maximum VI Formula
GPU: MSI 780ti Gaming 3G
Os: Win7 Home Premium
System Drive: Samsung 256Gb Pro Ssd
PSU: Corsair Ax860i

Your card has 3 default settings which are as follows:

MSI 780ti Gaming
1020MHz Core (Boost Clock:1085MHz) (OC Mode)
980MHz Core (Boost Clock:1046MHz) (Gaming Mode)
876MHz Core (Boost Clock:928MHz) (Silent Mode)

For future reference try not to double post, you can simply edit your original post (OP) to add more information.

Sure thing, sorry about that.

So the card will automatically selects one of those 3 clock speeds I assume?

and the memory overclock, a little tame do you think??

You use the MSI Gaming App to select which frequencies you want Silent/Gaming/OC it also auto regulates the memory frequencies to match.

You seem to have missed giving the display specs(most important)

Why do you need to overclock?
are you running an INSANE RES?
do you get any probs in games?

Why look at other cards/reviews?

You do know what they are for right?

EVERY card is different, all you can get is a "ball park" figure, that is the point of these things.

Failed on uploading a picture :) Here are the stats

Afterburner

Core Voltage (mv) +25
Power(%) 105
Core Clock (Mhz) +150
Mem Clock +30
Fan Speed 65

GPU-z

GPU CLOCK 1130 Memory 1765 Boost 1196
Default Clock 980 Memory 1750 Boost 1046

Pixel FR 54.2
Texture Filrate 271.2
Bandwidth 271.2

Thoughts?

The overclock came already done when I ordered the system. I run games at 1080p and I guess I don't really need OC but seeing as it has been done already I just wondered why the memory overclock was so small? The reviews I mention were all for the msi card I have, not different cards if that was what you ment?

I'm new to the whole overclocking thing and I'm sorry if I'm asking some obvious questions but regardless thank you for the info...

I guess I should do some reading and understand better before I start questioning Overclocks :)

At 1080p there's no need to OC, the card can easily handle 1080p with great FPS without breaking a sweat on default clocks. Unless you wanna benchmark and compare with other members on here, then by all means overclock.

I use EVGA PrecisionX with 38mV increase. Just go up in 10mhz increments and test until it starts artifacting or crashes.

+150 is pretty good for core clock. I can get a stable +100mhz core and +400mhz memory.

I do the same small steps but I use a benchmark that gives a score then I put that into excel, can see where the score starts to drop.

Then I reset to stock and do the same fir memory. Then give it a go with both.

Keeping both separate means you will always know which OC is failing.

I spent a few hours doing my 7770 got +100 mhz on core and +50 on memory.

Really didn't win the lottery on the memory front.

Thank you everyone for the input. I'm curious what you guys consider more important, a GPU overclock or memory overclock?

I guess I should go play some Titanfall and stop worrying about all those numbers until I fully understand them, oh wait I forgot Titanfall keeps crashing all the time, ah well I'm sure I'll find something to entertain me :D

It depends a lot on the benchmark/game. Some thrive more on vram bandwidth, some more on gpu power.

Also depends on who makes the vram for your card, some overclock better than others.

I say just enjoy the card, its very powerful.
