hey my friend wants me 2 ask around he is looking for a good gpu by nvidia for around 560 and under he was looking at the evga 770 4gb sc with Core Clock of 1111mhz and Boost Clock 1163 and Effective Memory Clock of 7010 mhzs but he really wants a evga 780 tho but his saying its lower on core clock and everthing but cost more he wants 2 know if theres a diffs from a 770 4gb 2 a 780 3gb besides vram would it be worth buying a evga 780 3gb card over a evga 770 4gb sc theres like 6 diff evga 780 cards on newegg he just dont no what 2 do so any help would be nices

780>770 in terms of performance. Its quite a big leap in performance. Also, maybe you don't need to look at evga for 'cards? Sometimes you don't need to religiously stick to a particular brand? Just putting it out there...

GTX 780 is a newer card than the GTX 770, which is almost a rebrand of the GTX 680. 780s are generally more powerful than 770s and if he can afford the higher cost, I would recommend going for the 780. Seeing as your friend is absolutely clueless, tho, I doubt that the higher performance achieved by a 780 will be much use, so yeah. A 770 will do fine, a 780 does better, but if you have nothing that makes use of the 780s superior power, go for a 770...

well he knows that he likes evga and i told him evga is beast so so a 780 evga is worth it

he has a 1440p sreen and plays alot of frap games and streams 2 twitch

i honestly have no idea what i just read. is punctuation really that hard?

I really hope you mean beast not best....

D3rrial is right, if he pays intensive (e.g. battlefield, arma 3)games then he should get a 780 otherwise a 770 will still do well. I'd say maybe look at a 280x but judgin about how you seem set on Nvidia I won't even bother.

Apparently so. Basically he's asking is a 780 worth it over a 770 4gb. Oh he also seems pretty set on evga for some strange reason.

Dont bother buying any of the EVGA overclocked cards - total waste of money.

Buy something and overclock it to save money. I wouldnt even bother with an EVGA at all if I was helping a friend.

EVGA bin chips for the Classified, so in days gone by if you wanted the best at a steep price then buy the Classified version of a card. With the arrival of the 780ti, EVGA have got greedy so not only is there all the normal versions of the card including the Classified, there is also the Kingpin Edition with even higher performance and the top binned chips.

The problem with this is EVGA in one move have trashed the Classified brand as it is no longer the best of the best.

Another problem with EVGA binning their chips is if you buy a bottom of the range, bog standard model off of them, it stands a bigger change of being a poor clocker and increases your chances of losing in the silicon lottery.

The bottom line is if you are going to overclock a card, then buy it off of another company that does not bin their chips and therefore increase your chances of winning the silicon lottery.

Probably won't consider my advice but i will throw it out there anyway if it does indeed help.

Seeing as many of the R9 290/290x 3rd party cooler cards are starting to become available to buy, i would hold off on a 780 and go for a 290. Faster at 1440p, cheaper(at least in US), and OC just as great.

+1 thank you for writing this for me :P

+1 I 2nd that

Seems i am not the only one who thinks this then:p

Now is the time to look at the non ref 290Xs and 290s, if it was me I would go for the Asus version. If you can put up with GPU Tweak that is.

Now I have got all the bits I need I am in the process of making mine non ref as well.

Whats wrong with Asus Tweak? From the looks of it though only the DCU2 has been reviewed that i can find. Either matches or beats a 780ti.

GPU Tweak is as buggy as hell depending on what cards you use it on.

With the 290Xs it seems to work quite well (shame about the lack of VRAM volts though).

A good example of it not working that well is with my Titans, I ran out of overclocking adjustment in GPU Tweak before the cards ran out of overclocking headroom lol. For the Titans I use Precision X instead.

Another bad example is with my GTX 690s, GPU Tweak has a lot of problems storing profiles even though I still use it with these cards.

With my Matrix Platinums again GPU Tweak is an absolute pain in the butt, unfortunately there is no other option with the Platinums.

Its not that its buggy. Its mainly designed to be used best with their custom cards. For others its just not there yet, but if you used Afterburner it would work well with any card.

Their Matrix Platinums are their custom cards and there are a lot of users who absolutely hate using GPU Tweak with them. It is the worst piece of overclocking software I have seen but unfortunately with their custom cards you are stuck with it.

With their ref 290Xs it seems to work quite well and you can give the cards up to 1.4v quite easily.
