Hi guys

Ive just recently built a new pc and im wondering which GPU to purchase for playing WOW on my 42inch TV (odd I know). Im aware that WOW is not extremely demanding graphically but Im just wondering if I can manage with something "budget" orientated despite the size of my TV. I would be running it at 1080p 1920x1200.

Thanks!

I cant help you on that, the only time i was trying that was like 4 or 5 years back. And the GPU has gone a very way ahead ;)

But what is your budget saying ?..

im running it max on a gtx 460 @890mhz and quad 3.6

raids can get quite laggy especially, anger of sha with 40 people or some 25mans but apart from that run fine vcyned at 60 on 1920x1080

Nice to hear :D - my self i play on a 27" and have 100 to 150 fps in 25 mans and the same in 40 mans raid. 10 man guild run i hit 200 fps all the time :D

It's laggy most likely because you use v-sync... When you have v-sync on and your fps drops below 60, it will instantly go all the way down to 30fps. That's just the way v-sync works.

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies! I was thinking of getting a radeon 7770 or a geforce 650 or 650ti. I also have power consumption to consider, I didnt really build this PC to game on initially so i only have a 430w Corsair CX Builder Series PSU, Im told that its a very good PSU but Im aware it wont be able to handle anything too much!

Vsync is usually ... synced with a set refresh rate in the actual game... the standard is probably 60Hz but it is known to create lag... in most games I believe. Dirt3 works better with Vsync on then with it off so there can be exceptions too.

radeon 7770 should do, but i do know for a fact the 7850 1gb edition will work realy well, and will keep u over 60 FPS on max detail in any situation.....also only uses 1 6pin power, so a CX430 should handle it (providing you dont have 500 other things pluged into your computer) so i would say 7770 on the bottom end of the budget, but if you can go for a 7850 or a GTX 660.

Woah, you were running an oc'ed 460 on a CX430? It would have been screamin its t*ts off. A testament to the build quality of the unit.
New gpu wise anything midrange will do. IMHO a 650ti or if you can snag a good deal it a 7850 would be pushing the very limit before replacing the psu.

maybe im wrong, but i thought the 7770 had a little more power than the 650ti? which imo would make it a better choice than the 650ti? if im wrong plz correct me

im running cx500, that is pretty much enough to power 460 sli w/o oc.

430 is more then enough to power 460, 550, 7770,7850, not too sure about 560 ti.

i prefer vsync just to keep my fan at 40% all the time, and the anger of sha lags for me not becuase of it but because 40 lvl90's all at the same time create as much as gfx, particals and other crazy stuff which a 460 just cant handle, it stabilises after few seconds though.

Thanks a lot guys, I do think the 7770 is more powerful and better for most games than the 650ti, however WOW does seem to favor Nvidia hardware and as such I think the 650ti has the egde! Ill try and pick one of these up as I think the 7850 is slightly out of my price range and might also be pushing the PSU!

looking at the post listed earler, i use a 560ti myself, and it keeps me way up into the 100+ FPS with everything on max, at 1080 res, so in my opinion i think the 650ti should be plenty for wow.... :) i recomend it, just please be sure to let us know how it performes for you!
