GPU coil whine-reference vs custom design

Hi guys, I just found my GPU is coil whining when I'm doing folding at home, I know this is common and does not do damage to the components so that's good :). I was just wondering, would chance of GPU coil whining be reduced if they have better power delivery system? For example, would GPU with good custom designed such as Asus matrix and MSI lighting have less chance of GPU coil whining at full load compare the the reference PCB designs?

They should be better yes. Especially something like the MSI Lightning series with their military grade caps and fets.

How long have you been folding?
And which card specifically do you have?

My EVGA 670 FTW had coil whine, after a couple of days of non-stop folding it got rid of it, so maybe on't think about replacing it so quickly.

I've been doing it for 4 days now, but I only put GPU into folding when I'm at sleep. I got MSI reference 680 - 1006Mhz and 1058 with boost, 6008Mhz memory bandwidth. I can't replace the card, when I was taking the stock cooler off for waterblock, one screw messed up so had to drill it out, which I guess warranty is avoided then, also they don't do damage to the card so I'm not worried about it, seen as only happens when I'm at sleep on the other room.

I also got some people telling me that some companies don't accept RMA if the card coil whines, is this true?

it can happen, especially if they cannot re-duplicate the circumstances during quality
re-check. usually it can fall on the retailer if they have many of the same sku with
the same issue and they may be sympathetic to your issue and some do not.
if it is an open coil, you might be able to insulate it (lots of google and YT about it)
its a crap-shoot on the RMA.
