Got myself a EeePC 1000H

My laptop died so I just bought an Asus EeePC 1000H WinXP edition and I must say I am pretty surprise by this little machine.

It came with 1Gb of DDR2-667 Ram and a 160Gb seagate HDD. I installed Vista Ultimate right away on a second partition and it is running vista pretty smoothly so far. But I got myself a 2Gb Ram upgrade so it should even runs better.

I will mainly use it for office work, powerpoint presentation, internet and email during business trip and I must that for the price I am very satisfied!

My mate has just snagged one up, practically unused for £165! I would of done the same.

I recommended putting another GB of Ram in there, as it's dirt cheap these days.

Nice, have been looking for those too but found them lacking CPU power for my usage. Wouldn't mind if you wrote a member review about it :')

sure i will try to write something and give more details as i get to use it. I am still updating vista at the moment, tons of updates... it's taking forever!

well the cpu ain't bad, can run vista with aero without problem and i still haven't installed the 2Gb of Ram. There is a tool to overclock the cpu from 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz in super performance mode but have not verified yet the benefit of that.

yeah I got a 2Gb stick from Transcend for about 22USD, the EeePC itself was around 390USD.

I can't comment on the atoms, but even the 630 celerons are adequate. Sure it struggles with morrowind at native res, but once overclocked I can get a nice 17fps. For most basic tasks its speed really isn't important.

I reckon it outperforms my pico (tho that is running a 1920*1200 screen so its not fair)

ive got the eepc 1000 here, been looking at updating the ssd with one of the runcore ones. But they cost a fair bit.

i was looking at getting one of the acer aspire ones, they are a lot nicer looking and have a larger keyboard, but less battery life. they are also a pita to install extra ram in apparently.

Well a little bit more info... got office 2007 installed and running pretty smoothly for all my documents doc, ppt or xls... no hickup so far. Also installed photoshop CS3 and it runs well too... haven't try to apply any filter on high res image yet, but will give some comparison between the EeePC and my desktop C2D.

I did try the super perfomance mode which gives a 7% overclock at best apparently. I will run superPi to get some numbers later.

I thought of buying a 64Gb SSD from OCZ as i saw one around 200USD but finally preferred to keep the 160 HDD splitted into 2 partition so I could keep XP and Vista.

I don't know about the Acer, but on the Asus you only have to unscrew 2 screws to open the the bottom panel and get an easy access to the memory slot and HDD... hassle free :)

on the acer you have to take out the keyboard and such, a right pita. think im going to wait anyway, bought a holiday so a bit tight on cash hehe

i would, we'll start to see netbooks with dual core atoms in the next month or so.

im not too bothered about specs, its mainly to just take to campus to do work between lectures and at night etc, but when i realised that was all i wanted it for, it seemed a waste of £250 lol

I want the Acer Aspire One Netbook, Are they any good? They look so smart. Bit like you though just paid for summer hols and dont want to spend anymore before next payday. Any one used one of these Acer babies? Are Eeepc's better? Which are built more sturdy?

i prefer the eee as they have a 6cell battery life instead of the 3cell. Having said that, acer may of updated it.
