Greetings all, my friend is getting a new computer (finally after ages) and he asked me to pick him the parts, this is what I got so far so if any one could drop an eye on this specks and warn me if you would change anything it would be much appreciated.
O and before you ask this is not a computer that will be tweaked this is a beast that will live for eons running games,PS,Maya and stuff.

I didn't want to "hijack other threads" but it seems a bit redundant that every time some one is asking for a build advice needs to open a new topic.
But that's just me.

what is the system for?
productivity or gaming?

thread jacking usually doesn't work, because any answers might get misconstrued
for the OP and your advised answers might be used for their build. so we'd like to
keep it a lil one-on-one instead of a gang of suggestions which helps no one.

Surely it's even more pointless to then after posting in someone elses thread and then making your own, for you to go and buy the parts before anyone gives you any advice on them...?

i'm going to take this a productivity over gaming.

well the problem being no supported hardware for MAYA in the 690. it is OK, but
not going to be a superstar. for real world usage, a work station would be better
offering due to the work-flow. don't know what autodesk suite (so assuming 2014)

if for gaming, way, way too much overkill on the CPU side. simple 3770k/4770k
will suffice for a while. easy GTX780 or 7970 GPU. could be a budget workstation/
gaming rig, but the productivity would suffer minor issues.

@jamesriley94:I'm sorry a bit of auto correct error and a misunderstanding I was answering "airdeano" question what I meant to write was both, going to fix it now so people don't think that I don't want help :)

@airdeano:I'm still training in Maya so I don't need a super star for now ;) the reason I chose that processor is quite simple I need it to run all games for as long as possible since I upgrade my computer once every N years. If you have any suggestion on what can be approved it would be much obliged.

Tbh, the processor is a bit stupid.
If you want to go massively overkill get a 3930k. Definitely not a 3970x as that's twice the money for no reason that would benefit you in gaming, and it certainly won't give you a longer time between upgrade.

Get the Samsung 840 Pro, not the non-pro version.

And with the money saved from the CPU, you could afford 780 SLI rather than the 690.

Could easily go with a 3930k, 12 threads will still destroy any game and it's probably enough for the Maya work that you do as well. I also seriously doubt you'd need 64 GB of RAM unless you're planning on running a RAMdisc.

A GTX 690 is going to cause more problems and put out a lot more heat than a single card solution, so for now I'd just grab a 780 and you can always toss in another later.

Other than that; A lot can happen in 5 years and we can't look into the future, so 'absolutely future proof' does not exist.

To add something else - I'd get a Noctua NH-D14 instead of the H110.

A fair few things have been going wrong with the H series coolers, and especially if you're wanting to keep it for many years before upgrading, there's no point in risking it.

@ jamesriley94: Thanks for the tip I’ve upgraded the setup with the pro series SSD and the new processor and wow I hade no idea these two could be so close :/ with such price difference. Also thanks for the heads up about the cooler.

@ Feronix: Yes Ramdisc is planed, but I am from the future ;) joke aside sadly I must agree
