Good GPU for under £100?

Hello all,

recently me and a few friends have taken to having small LAN parties around eachothers houses. Sadly one of my friend's 5670 recently died and as a token of goodwill towards him( he does usually host the 'gathering'), we have clubbed together to get him a new GPU as a suprise. I've done an ask around and gathered the sum of precisely £101. The rest of his rig is a 4300 cooled with a Scythe Mugen 3,an asrock pro3, 4gb ram, 1tb hdd. It is all housed in a coolermaster 430 which came with a 500w psu (even though this is a coolermaster one, I'd like your thoughts on whether this needs replacing).

Now I've been looking around and so far It looks like either a 650ti or a 7750. Any help appreciated :). I said I'll cover postage (although this looks less likely now I've manged to break my 8320) so its really £100 for the card, preferably with free shipping.

Yeah, definitely the HD 7770 Aria have a few for under 100 quid. The Aria model even comes with 2 free games

Sounds decent :D I'll get that.

Tripp, I ripped the 8320 out of its socket when I was taking the stock cooler off (had to get the seidon returned thus I was using the stock cooler). Who knew the stock thermal paste was soo... gluey. This was after an hour running some games as well.

Can't you get it off?

Stock thermal paste will cure as it's supposed to so to get it off you should stress test the CPU to get it warm then gently twist..

What's up with the CPU did you damage it? Shame if you did :(

As for GPU? depending on how much you rate him as a mate I would put the £33 and get him this.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-Direct...=UTF8&qid=1368477047&sr=8-2&keywords=7850+1gb

Because for the extra £33 it will absolutely destroy the 7770 and take you from low end to mid/high end.

I didn't spot the 7850, good find ^^. I'll see what I can do.
Yeah, I've managed to get it off, minimal damage however there is a small amount of bent pins so it might be salvageable but either way silly ol' me.

yeah those pins can be straightened out but it's a long tedious job. I found a credit card between the rows helps you get them right without going bosseyed

It's the entire three back row of pins are slightly off. Not going to lie, this'll be one of my more stressful computer moments :S. The main issue is that due to the lack of readily available AM3+ processors for me to use I won't be able to check if the 'board or the cpu is knackered :( if it doesn't work when I attempt to fix it .

Due to the one mac user in my langroup being, well... a mac user, we've now got the funds to go and buy him a 7850 :D.

And thanks for he kind words guys, it's a hard time ;_;. I've gone from SSD bootage and relatively little noise back into the world of dell, cheap cases and 90mm fans that attempt to replicate a jet.Yaaay.

Look for something used.....

I never buy used, i've had a very bad experience with buying used in the past :P besides I ordered the 7850 this morning and the games at the LAN gatherings tend to based on the source engines. The majourity of participants either do not have the power or the rigs (mmmm laptops) to play games such as battlefield or more demanding games.
