Going RAID?

Is it possible to go RAID when the OS it already installed on one of the HDD's?

Would like to go RAID as SSDs are still too expensive in my opinion.

I suppose it would depend on what type of RAID you go for. RAID 0 should be fine, but RAID 1 might not be. I'd recommend further research.

Blimey... haha

What you asked wouldn't work, you have to do a clean install, unless you have some of the high end raid cards, which I believe migrate the data for you.

IMO, getting a second hard disk wouldn't be worth it. I ran two raptors on my old desktop in raid 0, and they're absolutely smashed by my laptop with a vertex...

LMAO @ the first few posts. U guyz are classic.

Thing that always hampers dreams of moving an OS between raid, no raid, ide to sata etc etc are device drivers and raid controller drivers.

Not many people think of it, but I'm a complete advocate for installing an OS with the SATA ports set to ahci in the bios, for just this reason. Gives u the complete flexibility to mess about in the future, ofc immediately after the install u can set ur SATA back to IDE if u want as those drivers are standard.

If u don't, generally most problems are overcome by moving the image and running an OS repair with the dvd. Can be hit and miss tho.

Hmm. Maybe I'll just wait until my next build, and get some reliable SSDs in RAID then. Hopefully by that time they will have the 32nm i7 processor out, although I hear rumours about them almost skipped 32nm and going straight to 22nm
