My system is getting to slow for me and thinking my hdd is the slowest part, i want to upgrade it.

i've done a few build with raid before so what i really want to know is what the fastest array is for €120.

at the moment, ive got a slow 1.5tb WD drive so i'll use that for backup.

anyways, is 2X spinpoint F3R the way to go or is there better value for money ? like 3x 500gb F3 with only 16mb cache ?

or any other setup ? thanks

Get an SSD. Put Windows and all of your most used programs on it and everything else on a large mechanical drive.

not going ssd, it's more expensive, and it just doesnt last long, the f3r comes with 5 years of warranty and is pretty much fail proof.

but i don't want to be narrow minded so i checked out some ssd's, its €192 for 50gb of revodrive or €170 for 120 of mushkin goodness

what speeds can i expect of 3 F3's ? google is a pain in the ass tbh

Not sure on what speeds you can expect, but RAIDing 10 drives won't get you the latency of a single SSD. Mechanical drives will always add latency of the moving parts. It's not all about sustained read/write speeds. Also, there is heat, noise and electrical use which are near non-existent on an SSD.

SSDs do last long and are very reliable, not really sure where you are getting that they aren't. They also have loads of different pricing from $50 all the way up to thousands.

well i think you're right, ill probably get a 96gb kingston v+100, only need windows, google chrome and 2-3 games anyway and at €140 they're not very expensive..

Two of my F3 raid0.

Very cost effective.

Beats my ssd that's sure lol

went both ssd and raid0 so now i got 120gb mushkin callisto an 2x 1tb F3R, well not really now, more or less waiting for until i'm back from some stupid schooltrip, btw, what is an estimate for windows 7 boot time with the callisto ?

The SSD will actually be waiting on Windows 7. That animation at the beginning is timed. Once you hit the log in screen, everything is immediately available. I type my password in and hit enter and almost instantly my desktop loads and this is with an older SSD.

hmm timed you say.. now where do I mod ?

Removing the win 7 splash screen makes a noticeable difference to boot times for me even on my now ageing sata 2 boot drive.

1. Open control panel and set the view to "category" if you have it on one of the other 2 views.

2. Click "system and security" then on "administrative tools".

3. Double click on "system configuration" once thats open click the "boot" tab.

4. Click the box next to "no GUI boot" then click apply then ok and then a pop-up box should appear, just click the "restart" button and you should be done.
