Godfall will use 12GB of VRAM at 4K Ultra settings - The RTX 3080 has 10GB...

I think people confuse past titles with this one.

This title may indeed actually need that much vram. Past titles? Memory commited != Memory used. Games like COD using 12GB in afterburner isn't what the game is actually using.

We need to wait and see how this title uses VRAM and if it actually needs it.

Even still if you are not at 4k, you do not need to worry and even if you are at 4k, you'll still be fine. Drop a couple settings here and there and problem solved.

I wonder if it's is a deliberate attempt by AMD to outdo Nvidia.

I've been thinking about this since you posted. TBH? I don't know how that would work. Like, did they do it deliberately when they had absolutely no idea what Nvidia were planning to do? like, Nvidia pulled so many stunts to hide the specs of their cards it was crazy.

I reckon AMD just did what they were doing regardless tbh. I don't know how you could inflate a game's textures beyond 10gb with it looking so complete. In a month. It just doesn't make sense.

Good point.

I believe Godfall 12 GB VRAM requirement for 4K is just artificial amount. This AMD sponsored / bundled game is clearly promoting RX 6000 card with 16GB VRAM over RTX 3080 with 10GB VRAM.

Or, you know, the developers could be using a lot of highly detailed textures at 4K to make a more immersive gaming experience? It shouldn't be too hard to tweak the graphics settings to make the game use 10GB or less of VRAM though and the fidelity may or may not be noticeable.

Yeah that is why I chose to side step that post tbh.

If you want progression you have to accept that the "cost" is going to go up. Maybe not in raw £ but in requirements.

At least now I can *finally* stop whining about consoles holding back the market.
