IBM and GLOBALFOUNDRIES today announced that they have signed a Definitive Agreement under which GLOBALFOUNDRIES plans to acquire IBM's global commercial semiconductor technology business, including intellectual property, world-class technologists and technologies related to IBM Microelectronics.

great new, but as always exaggerated by goflo, in no way either of them are technology leader once it comes to manufacturing process not by a long shot, that spot is reserved for intel

Mate IBM has some absolutely bonkers stuff coming out of their RnD labs. This is a big deal. Like 22nm carbon nano-tube process. Smaller is not always better if you can just change the game completely
 
Frankly I dont get why people praise intel so much in regards to the manufacturing process that they have achieved, they have spent crap loads of funds to get there, yet they are unable/unwilling to up their production.

Others like TSMC, Gloflo, ARM etc etc actually have a client base of which they are using to basically advance for them, as opposed to Intel which is almost dependent on their own product revenue streams. Sure Intel are at 14nm, but they are shouldering all the cost themselves and are not able/willing to increase their production in order to obtain and provide for clients.
