Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5 Review

GD65 vs Sniper M5

Hi Tom, and all ya over OC'ers...

Iam about to build myself a new rig based on the I5 4670k Haswell... I've got a Fractal Design Define R3 cabinet for my pc so Iam only thinking about performance and airflow, and not size of the mobo...

Iam down to choosing between 2 mobo's fitting my princerange: MSI GD65 Gaming and the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5 - what would your pick be of those 2 ? Iam buying the H100i cooler and a pair of 16gb 2400 rams along with the mobo and CPU, but iam not going to OC the rig all of a lot... I cant deceide for my self...

not into looks

Iam not into looks, as the case is closed, I just want a quiet/fast rig... so its all about performance, maybe the onboard stuff as sound, Network and such...

Iam thinking the mAtx could provide a better airflow and more space for the h100i radiator...

You would be wrong. lol And the H100i wont fit in the R3.

craaaaap

Why is that ? got room for 2x120/140mm fans on top ?

maybe iam a "interiordesign noob" allright, but rightnow i feel really dumb :-P thought I had it all checked out... i guess i was wrong then...

allright

Thx... stopped me from buying stupid :-)

but back to mobo - not thinking about casing.. what mobo to choose of the 2... GD65 and Sniper M5...

iam buying new then :-D

Just want to know which one to choose - could be tempted to buy new case aswell now I allready have my card out ;-)

iam thinking Obsidian 350D w. Sniper M5 or 550D w. GD65...

Was really hoping to be able to use the h100i... so now iam all open for suggestions...

Watch the M5 review........

Get the Sniper M5, it's a great looking board (haven't finished my rig yet to use it). I have it in a 550D, there is a bit of extra room in there but it looks ok, but if you go for a giant case it's going to look odd, especially if you have a side window, and all your components are in one corner.

I wanted the 550D to be quiet, and to be enclosed, I will add a couple of fans maybe but I want to keep it boxed in. Watch the M5 video as Tom said, that was what made me buy mine.

Done... Result:

G1.Sniper M5
I4670k
Corsair 16gb (4x4) 2400mhz
128gb Corsair Force GS SSD
Corsair Obsidian 350D
Corsair H100i
EVGA GTX 760 4gb
+ misc. Corsair fans.

... on its way

I've watched it, I know the Titan is more expensive, and I won't gain much more from it than I would a 780, but whilst I'll only be gaming at 1080p at the moment, I might end up adding multi-monitor at high resolutions. Just one step at a time.

I'll give it another re-watch though.

beeing curious and all... with the before mentioned setup... and if I were to look into OC'ing... what could I expect... IF I tried... reading all your reviews and stuff, kindda intrigues me into trying it :-D just for kicks u know...

Depends on how lucky you are with your CPU quality, but 4.4Ghz should be doable for most people, with reasonable voltages. I wouldn't go for 4.6Ghz if I had to run a Vcore close to or above 1.3V...
