Gigabyte 580 SOC temps

hello chaps, recently got hold of a 580 SOC and just wondering if my temps are normal

i used hard reset as a benchmark for the coolers performance. setting are maxed with 2xAA.

i get 80 degrees C with stock clocks and volts. fan on auto will ramp up to 100%.

to me this doesnt seen normal. the review of this card on here states its one of the quietest cars under load available.

considering this card is meant to be over volted and OC, depending on ambient temps i wouldnt be suprised if the card went near 85 +

should i try reapplying thermal paste?

BTW the card is second hand. the previous owner has said that he never seen teh card hit !))% fan speed and he had teh card in SLI with a reference 580.

That doesnt seem right to me, any cards I have ever used never really change from the stock fan speed, unless benchmarking, I guess you could try re applying thermal paste yeah

Well my SOC reaches 80 C when I'm folding, but when I game the highest I've seen is around 71 - 73 C. I'm thinking about re-applying thermal paste as well. It was reaching 90 C, so I gave it a good clean using some compressed air and temps dropped 10 C. My room is extremely dusty and I have to take apart my rig every 3 - 4 months to give it a good dusting to ensure that my components don't heat up to a level I'm not comfortable with.

I've had the card for about 9 months now and it does seem to me that temps have increased gradually. Since I fold 24/7 when I'm not gaming it has most likely had an effect on my cards ability to transfer heat.

Make sure that the card is dust free before reapplying the paste to see if that improves the temperatures. If it does improve the temps, but you are still not happy it may be a good idea to replace the thermal paste.

My fans have been running at 100% for a long time without any issues. My room is probably the hottest in my house and because I don't have a window in the room that can be opened I think my temps suffer quite considerably.

ok think my thermal paste will arrive tomorrow morning.

anything to consider when removing heat sink? tips etc?

am i right in thinking its just a case of removing the four screws, clean off old TIM, apply new TIM and re attach heat sink?

Yep thats it, i used some MX-4 on my 580 SOC recently.

Remove 4 screws, then obviously a bit of elbow grease afterwards to remove the heat sink.

My temps are fairly acceptable with an overclock applied. Most gaming will see me around 75-80 degrees running at 920mhz, 950mhz doesn't tend to go much higher however in benchmarks i get artifacts.
