Check out OC3D's review of the GTX 950 Here

GeForce is the world's most advanced gaming platform, with the world's most powerful and technologically sophisticated graphics cards. With GeForce, gamers receive blazing performance, industry-leading power efficiency, innovative hardware features that perceptively improve the experience, software enhancements that cannot be found anywhere else, and support for DirectX 12 features that will be found in upcoming Windows 10 games.

Today, there's a new way to start gaming with GeForce: the £129 GeForce GTX 950. If you're looking for a modern GPU that can handle the latest games, this is the place to start. Up to three times faster than previous-generation GeForce GTX 650, and with support for all the latest technologies and effects, the GTX 950 gets you in the game.

As the video above demonstrates, an excellent level of detail can be attained in modern games with the new GTX 950: 2GB of video memory ensures a high level of texture detail at 1920x1080 in the majority of games, and all those bells and whistles that may have been previously off-limits can now be enabled.
Performance, meanwhile, is also excellent thanks to the Maxwell architecture's class-leading technology. Take a look at the chart below to see how the GeForce GTX 950 tackles popular games.

In addition to excellent performance, the GeForce GTX 950 has an unmatched set of features for a GPU of its class, with DirectX 12 support, support for our latest GameWorks visual effects, support for NVIDIA technologies like DSR, G-SYNC and MFAA, and support for GeForce Experience, the much-loved application that automatically configures your games for optimal performance, and records your gameplay with a near-zero impact on your performance. Soon, GeForce Experience will be updated to include new on-screen controls, new clip editing and upload functionality, and GameStream Co-Op, which enables friends to remotely join your game.

If you want to play an upcoming Windows 10 DirectX 12 game, like Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, use a game-enhancing NVIDIA effect, such as TXAA or PhysX, or upgrade your experience with a smooth, tear-free G-SYNC monitor, the GeForce GTX 950 can do it all.

Many gamers play AAA titles like Grand Theft Auto V, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, and Project Cars, but many, many more are playing Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games (MOBAs). Commanding 30 million players a month, MOBAs are the most popular games around, and for a significant number they are all they play, day in, day out. Skill is vitally important in these fast-paced, click-heavy, action-strategy games, but so is PC performance you may be surprised to learn.

For MOBAs it's great to have a high framerate, as it is in any other game. More important though is responsiveness, which is dictated by performance and latency. With poor responsiveness, mouse clicks take longer to register, delaying your inputs and commands, which may make the difference between life and death.

By upgrading to a GeForce GTX 950, delays are reduced and responsiveness increased through a combination of improved performance and latency optimisation, giving you the competitive edge. Below, our video demonstrates why responsiveness is so important in high-stakes MOBAs, and how delays are minimised on GeForce GTX 950 GPUs.

On the GeForce GTX 950, improved responsiveness is a product of Maxwell's faster frame times and framerates, and latency optimisations enabled by NVIDIA Control Panel tweaks that have been brought into GeForce Experience's one-click Optimal Playable Settings feature for the very first time.

Through extensive testing we've determined which settings, in and out of game, optimise performance and responsiveness to give you the edge during gameplay.

In-game, graphical detail is reduced to improve frame rates and remove unnecessary detail that may obscure enemies, and out of game we adjust several options in the NVIDIA Control Panel:

  • NVIDIA Control Panel Vertical Sync (VSync): Games and game engines differ in their handling of VSync, in some cases reducing the quality of the experience. By enabling NVIDIA Control Panel VSync we ensure a consistent, high quality experience, free from screen tearing and stuttering. To avoid falling below the monitor's refresh rate, where VSync begins to degrade the experience, GeForce Experience's low latency MOBA Optimal Playable Settings will adjust graphics settings to optimal levels.
  • Refresh Rate: Out of the box, most high refresh-rate monitors run at 60Hz, instead of their rated 120-144Hz speeds. Many users fail to realise, and therefore have a sub-standard experience for the lifetime of the monitor. With the new GeForce Experience Low Latency Optimal Playable Settings, the refresh rate is set to the optimum speed.
  • Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames: Limits the number of frames the CPU can prepare before the frames are processed by the GPU. By reducing the value input responsiveness is improved, reducing the delay between a mouse click and the action occurring on-screen.

Together, Framerate and latency optimizations make a visible difference to the responsiveness of DOTA 2 and other MOBAs.

If you want an affordable upgrade to improve your performance, graphical fidelity and MOBA win rate, and to give you access to DirectX 12 and NVIDIA's expansive range of technologies, the GeForce GTX 950 is the only game in town. Frame rates, frame times, and responsiveness are all best on GeForce GTX GPUs, and no other class of card can grant you access to industry-leading software like GeForce Experience, GeForce Experience's upcoming GameStream Co-Op technology, game-enhancing tech like MFAA, and advanced visual effects like PhysX Flex.

If you're ready to improve your performance, in-game and in Fraps, then you can buy the GeForce GTX 950 starting at £129 from e-tailers and retailers. Our partners will be offering numerous versions, some with overclocks, many with custom coolers, and some with idle fan modes that activate when the card is under light loads in games.

Why are they comparing a 2 gen old card vs a new one? That's not skewed or anything -_-
For a second there Dice after seeing this whole write up, A) Makes me think you're writing for OC3D, B ) Makes me think you are back to Nvidia cards already lol

No to both, I just post the latest drivers for both vendors and this is just the driver needed for the GTX 950 to operate correctly :)

Oh I know but you have a talent for making a long post look pretty clean and relatively short. You do that often:p

Thanks very much bud but with driver related threads it's literally copy pasta from the vendors site and keeping it neat and tidy as you really don't want to be editing their information too much due to misinformation etc... which as AMD owners we are all too aware of ;)

Lmao true dat^_^

Thanks again Dice :)

This might be last time i will be downloading Nvidia driver if i can get my A into G and try and sell this GTX970 of mine

Yes i am ^_^

Not sure what brand of GPU yet ;)

Well if it's 8GB you're looking for then only the 390 and 390x are capable of giving you that. I loved my XFX 390x. I actually liked the looks and it was quite enough, oddly I couldn't touch the Mem volts though. Think it's because we need updated OC suites. In some instances of software it read as a 290x, despite having newer firmware and BIOS's along with better vram:p

Yep it's going to be a 390 i don't think i can afford the extra $100 for the 390x it's down to 2 brand i'm looking at but i just can't make my mind up

Just curious but why not wait an extra 2-4 weeks until you get an extra $100 ?

Off Topic

It's not as easy as that i'm wrong it's more than an extra $100 atm the prices are
XFX Radeon R9 390 Double Dissipation Black Edition 8GB $519.00
XFX Radeon R9 390X Double Dissipation 8GB $639.00
And then you have to add an extra $20.00 to $30.00 for shipping.

Have you considered grabbing a 980ti or Fury X? After all you should be able to get around 300-350 for your 970 after shipping and selling fees etc.

If you could wait for the Fury to become more reasonably priced and actually available in AU then that would be even better.

I cannot even come close to justifying or recommending the 390x or 390 at those prices..

If you want an 8GB card, take a look at importing a 290x 8GB.

The 980 is also an option, and can be had for around the 390x prices.

I haven't brought the GPU yet, I'm still using the GTX970
