Gaming Headset or AudioPhile?

I bought a of Speedlink Medusa 5.1 gaming headset and to start off with, i thought it was quite good, but slowly as I've used it, i like it less and less.

I've seen alot of people say that a nice pair of Stereo headphones, is just as good as a 5.1 set for gaming, but i kinda believe it.

But i speak to all my clan mates, and they say, go for a specific gaming Headset, like the Sennheiser PC350's with a mic, or the Steelseries Siberia.

I was thinking about buying a pair of Sennheiser HD555's, or 595's if i feel extravigant.

But I'm really not sure whether i go for gaming (Like the look of the Logitech G35 7.1)

Or go full audiolphile stereo.

Just wondered what others thought.

And suggestions of a setup i could go for

You most def can!!! I suggest going for Beyerdynamic dt770's and hook them upto a decent soundcard, suc as the Xonar D2X. Incredible sound and for gaming the soundstage is ridiculously amazing...

Edit: and oh, the pc350's imo are kinda ****... expensive for what it is, waaay too much treble and no low end at all... might be ok for gaming but useless for much else... stick with the above ^^

The HD595s sound utterly fantastic. To be honest they aren't as good as my old zalman 5.1 set were for pinpointing noise in games. But the sound quality more than makes up for it imo.

Used with a separate mic here and couldn't be happier with them.

Not to mention they come with the worlds most useful stand .

Look into the Audio Technica Axxx series. They are the best for gaming soundstage (sound position)

I'm using the Audio Technia A900's and they're the best headphones I've ever used plus they are comfortable to use (music and gaming) for hours and hours on end.

3D wing system and large pads is most likely why.

There are the A700's which are a bit cheaper, perfect for gaming still.

hmm... dt770 vs 595 is quite interesting

the 595's leak a lot of sound whereas the Beyers are more closed...

Beyers are bright and bassy whereas the 595 is more balanced.

In the end depends on what type of music u listen to..

The AKG 601's might also be worth looking into

My sennheiser hd555s were quite cheap, they are seriously comfy and being open my ears dont get hot

Much better than my medusas (which broke)

I also use these headphones for music too (Y)

I reckon go down the audiophile route. I'm very happy with my SE530s, they go very well with the D2X but are also pretty good even with the ipod (on a plane the noise cancelling is worth its weight in diamonds). At least with audiophile ones, they're good for everything including music.
