Gaming and image editing pc

Oh, sorry. Yeah I checked for you, they will fit on the Sabertooth. You might have to check with the Vengeance actually though, because they do have a higher heatsink. Get the MSI 580. MSI make the best cooler out right now AFAIK, and I'm sure if you really wanted you could go through the other threads where Tom has said straight out "get the MSI". I ignored his kind words though and went with ASUS because I fanboid

Also, of course the 580 will run BF3. Cards from 3 years ago will run BF3. Just because it's a new game doesn't mean you need the latest hardware. It was the same misconception a lot of downies had when Crysis came out. I remember everyone trying to tease me saying how dumb I was for having to spend 900 on a PC just to run a game, and I was like, wait, didn't you just buy a PS3 for 900? Oh, the humour and great deal of arguing I had with Crysis, almost brings a tear to my eye.

Thanks for all your help =) +1. Going with the MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning then. I'll try and research and see if it will fit or not.

So the build should be something like this then?;.

Hardware

CASE: Raven 2 - Evolution = $185

PSU: Corsair AX850 = $245

MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth P67 = $259

CPU: 2600k = $325

COOLER: Noctua NH-C14 = $109

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600 (9-9-9-24) 1.5v = $115 or Corsair CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 – $145

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning = $649

BOOT: Corsair Force Series 3 120GB = $269

STORAGE: Samsung 1TB Spinpoint F3 7200rpm – $59

OPTICAL: Lite-On 24x DVDRW = $29

Periphs

MONITOR: BenQ 24inch LCD @ 2ms x2 = $398

MOUSE: SteelSeries Ikari = $49

Other

Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit = $109

2m sleeved green LED cable - $25

Total without shipping = $2716/2746

Shipping will be about $150, giving me comfortably another $200-300 to put towards the build, anything i could upgrade or add?.

That list looks fine, although if I was you and your parents are willing to pay for it you might as well get a 2nd GTX 580 now. Or you could always try water cooling instead?

I'd go with the d14 and add a fan onto the sabertooth

That fan basically doesn't shit all. I had one on my build and tossed it because I saw maybe a 2 degree difference. I'm not sure whether it'd be the Raven case that screws with the air flow or what, but that little fan didn't help much. Better off just getting the C-14.

He wants money left over to purchase a desk and chair. One 580 will be fine, there is no reason to waste money like that. Especially since that mobo takes only 2 cards, you'd be pretty upset when you went to actually upgrade the GPU, and be waiting quite a while

Ahh sorry forgot he wanted a desk and chair also ^.^

So what should i put the extra $300 towards? (even if i put another $300 towards the build still leaves me with just over $600 for a desk and chair). Better ram, mobo or screens?. Possibly the Xai mouse or a larger ssd?.

I used to do a lot of image editing and a lot of batch files threw light room I would go with more RAM and probably 2x 2gb 570's, so you have more video RAM. It was the only think my PC used to not have enough of.

Running batches of images at once fills it up a lot, but we used to have a printer that printed 2 for wide so needed the images to be large and in RAW.

Would this ram be ok link?.

Don't want to go with 570's, havn't used light room before, may do in the future but for the moment wouldn't make much use of it. Should be able to get another 580 lightning before the end of this year to sli, will that be enough video ram?.

The ram you linked to is triple channel memory and you need dual channel so go for this: LINK

The vid RAM on the 58- lightning will be plenty for what you'll be using.

According to the noctua compatibility list, the vengeance will not fit, but the dominator's will if you remove the heat sink. (any way to fix this issue?, ie bigger mobo, case or alternatively go for a smaller cooler?).

Also like i said before still have $300 to put towards the build comfortably, can go up to $500 more if i need to. What should i add and or upgrade?.

Was thinking maybe the ocz f3 120gb ssd, does it perform better than the corsair i have listed?. Possibly changing to the Xai mouse, maybe a logitech g19.

I'd worry about heat issues with your CPU than the RAM, chances are if you're unlucky a nice zap of static will probably kill any RAM than overheating. So... pick less ridiculously tall heatspeader RAM, or if they have removable tops (check still to make sure). Corsair do do a XMS single 4GB sticks (dick move) at 1600MHz with 7-8-7-20 timings at $45 each ($150 for 2x 4GB at PCCG)

Spare change?... a third monitor?

Okay thanks, I'll bare that in mind when i get my rig

Could a third stick fit?

Was contemplating a 3rd screen but i just don't have the space for it.

Also any good headset recommendations?.

I just want to clear one thing up, a better videocard doesn't speed up rendering.

Only thing it might do is speed up the viewport a bit.

Rendering is all about the CPU and the RAM.
