GAME UK's ending its game trade-in service

Trade ins just became horribly flooded with nothing but FiFa <insert outdated year>, Call of duty, or whatever game gets refreshed every year.

Smart move by them though considering online storage/downloading is the norm now. I feel like physical copies are in a massive decline. Gone are the days of huge game stores catering for all consoles and PC. Now they are just tiny little stores scattered in each shopping centre/mall

Does Game even sell PC games anymore?

Only time I really want to purchase physical copies are with Collectors Editions, however, if Horizon Forbidden West is anything to go by, these might start coming with a digital code anyway!

Id still search online for CE boxes. Chances are they are cheaper.

The problem with digital only is when consoles get old and unsupported how long after you can no longer download games for that console, for PC I don't think it's so much of an issue but console I'd rather have physical copies

I can still download FF1 through to 9 on the playstation store which I bought over 15 years ago, so im pretty sure its not an issue.

there's also as physical you may pick an older game up cheaper than the online store sales it, and obviously you can only fit so many games on a HDD so physical makes more sense that way

Funnily enough, i just checked my storage earlier and out of curiosity opened my PS3 box.

I found FF lightning returns in there... completely unopened and sealed. Forgot I had it :D

I actually liked FFXIII and FXIII-2 but never played the third despite it wrapping up the trilogy. Probs something to do with having to play the second from start to finish after completing to get the proper ending...

I called it years back with these stores in general, I spoke to a manager and said basically your store is a bunch of boxes, you should put it on a system for people to browse then fill the shop with gaming related merchendise.

south of the country when i worked there had it more right with 2 shops i went too, one was small like tiny yet he even had a life size lara croft for sale, sold mainly very rare items. Another rather much bigger store focused on key games no trade ins and had a lot of imports at very good prices, then the rest of the shop was filled with merchendice which i actually picked up a fair few things i'd not ever find elsewhere even back then some 15+ years ago them two shops put the likes of game eb etc to shame.

when a company focuses on profit and not passion that is when it will eventually fail, all these kind of big company stores will go belly up as they have no passion.

I have an inkling that everything going digital is going to backfire so badly in the coming years.

Yup, going so heavily digitally is convient for many reasons. But dropping an EMP for example, that basically has no physical damage like an actual bomb, but fries everything electronic and hence the society would literally crash. ATMs, phones, systems, banks, everything... And that is scary.

You know thats almost impossible right?

Every sensitive and secure site hosting servers etc including every mobile network in every country, is housed within a ridiculously EMP shielded vault. You would need to break in and those sites are so heavily strict on security that you would need to be some jilted upper echelon management to do such a thing. This kind of stuff is only something you see in movies.

Only the end user devices could be impacted negatively. I regularly go on site for our telecommunications network in Norway. I have to pass through 5 security doors, sign in to a guard after pre-booking my arrival date and departure time, then open a 60 inch door to enter the servers that hold the countries mobile network. IF i get sacked, quit or laid off. Im instantly revoked from these places faster than they can actually remove the login of my work pc.

Now if Neustar (who handle the entire worlds master DNS information) were to have problems then the world could turn to chaos.

Anyways... Did I just understand that FF Lightning Returns is actually FF 13-3? or did I misunderstand.

I was referring to mostly that it would blast out cars, smartphones, ATMs etc... if that would happen, what would the consequences be you'd think? Massive traffic jams all over, panic etc.

The only EMP you need to worry about is the one a nuke puts out. At which point you will have far more to worry about than your car not working lol.

Not sure how you got to a nuke from an EMP really? A nuke is a whole different thing lol. If we're talking a nuke, then hopefully the blast kills you straight away...

There are such things as nuclear electromagnetic bombs. Guess he means that.
