"Right...what the hell kind of name is "Soap", eh? How'd a muppet like you pass selection?"

— Captain Price

Infinity ward presents Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare, the next generation of combat shooter and one of the most anticipated games of the year. Fight as a member of the US Forces and British Spec Ops in Global Hotspots to eliminate a well-armed ruthless force of international separatists. Take the fight online where persistent stats unlock dozens of customisable weapons and abilities like calling in arrack helicopters and fighter jets to dominate your opponent.

Call of Duty 4 is actually the third in the computer playable series of IW. Annoyingly they decided that we didn’t want to play cod3.

Anyways, let us install and have some fun.

After a 9 minute and 53 second agonizing wait with instructions consisting of click this, click this, punch this and kick that. I successfully installed the game and punkbuster, needed to play the game online; I am now ready to play.

The game seems to think that the best settings are those that make the game look like a dog’s ear. So I threw the settings up to max. My 8800GTS handles the game fantastically.

During the single-player missions, you get to control five different characters:

1. Soap

2. Jackson

3. A young Cpt. Price

4. Gunship Operator

5. An SAS counter-terrorist

The main character is Soap. It is he who you will control and carry out missions with in the later part of the game. Jackson is with the USMC who you only get to use in five missions after he succumbs to radioactive sickness.

Captain Price is played in the flashbacks, which include all ghillied up, one shot one kill, and heat.

The gunship op. is only for one mission where you fly round and use the airships guns.

The final character is the SAS CT. Who is only playable in the Mile High Club.

Starting a new game, your treated the assault course. Teaching you what the buttons are, as well as reminding you that you need to change some.

The squadron record is set by Gaz at 19 seconds, beatable. I got 17.9 and I am by no means good.

A good thing they have put in is an IW time, of 15 seconds. MAD. What would have been good is an inclusion of this on the web. So that you can show off. One more thing is that you cannot skip it. Nor the agonising introduction/film sequence after this.

Now the hard bit, ratings. I have decided to go with a couple of different areas to comment in.

Graphics - Life like or a 3 year olds drawing?

Brilliant, though it did not stress the high end cards.

From top to bottom, one of the best-looking console games around.

- 9

Sound - Should draw you in from your real life.

The explosions will shake you; the constant sounds of gunfire will put you on edge. The end song is an added bonus and properly immortalizes the unfortunate phrase, "Go deep and hard."

- 8

Game play – Do you find yourself in the game?

An excellent shooter that is as intense an experience as you can find in gaming. The multiplayer is also top-notch.

- 9.5

Lasting Appeal – Thoughts on the game after playing through.

The single-player experience is brief, but there are many other things that will hold your attention once the campaign is complete.

- 10

Replay-ability - I like made up words ;D. Are you able to play it through again with goose bumps?

I find that I am able to play it again and again.

Ever tried playing the missions with just a pistol?

- 10

OVERALL - 9.3
